what does this have to do with abortion??

Point being, there are a lot of things the Church does that folks don’t like. And again, so what?

You asked why something was done, you received your answer, you say you don’t agree–fine, you don’t have to approve. If you expect Catholics to grab their shovels and start burying Saints, that’s not going to happen.

Every once in a while, a mod appears in a thread and writes, “Question Answered”. Now would be a good time, lol.

I can’t see wasting anymore bandwidth on this thread.

this has nothing to do with the saints themselves. I feel sorry for them being on display.
Personally I have faith in Jesus and what he did at the cross and that he rose from the dead , I don’t need to have faith in the Saints.

Thank you.🙂
If God preserved them from corruption, then He wanted them on “display”. Are you going to argue with Him?

I don’t believe God would want any dead body on display, and that includes any dead body. Maybe some day some of you can be on display. Like the poster above said no sense wasting anymore room on this subject.🙂

It’s not so much the dead saints on display but the ones in catatonic states I find offensive. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a depiction of St Terese in a fit of ecstasy and wanted to tear it down. An unedifying position if I ever saw one!

If for example the Heart of St Theresa of Avila was not on display, then you wouldn’t know but through Faith of the Vision she received, being Stuck in the Heart with a Spear by an Angel. thus showing signs of Transverberation.

Pope John XXIII was embalmed “after” he was found incorrupt. He wasn’t buried embalmed.

Who’s talking about abortion, not I? I’m talking about Incorrupt Saint on Display. Thank You.

You don’t have to like it. Thats certainly your perogative:shrug:

It’s one thing to hear a story of Saint So-and-So who lived in the 13th century and did such pious things. It’s another to see Saint So-and-So and hear about his actions.

It’s nice to hear about the Saints, as they inspire us to follow God. It’s even better to see their bodies, as it reinforces the idea that** they actually existed**, and aren’t some legend.

There’s splendid book available about the Church and relics:

Magnificent Corpses by Anneli Rufus

I highly encourage everyone to read it. It’s not only supremely entertaining, it’s also educational.🙂

Pope John XXIII was embalmed “after” he was found incorrupt. He wasn’t buried embalmed

The New York Daily News, however, in a March 29 article entitled, “Morticians Explain Why Pope’s Body is Preserved” quoted funeral experts who said that the incident surrounding John XXIII “is the result of first-class embalming and luck.”

Oh and why oh why do they need to open the caskets.😃

Moses had the bones of their ancestor, Jacob/Israel, carried with them during the Jewish Exodus.

The relics of saints stems from a time when the Church was persecuted and we often had to celebrate our liturgies in catacombs which was a giant graveyard. The earliest Christians carried the remains of their loved ones there, buried them and celebrated Mass near them. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was early on very linked with the sacrifice of life which the martyrs had undergone. You will see this very clear link in many of the early Church Fathers of the period.

Nowadays, all Catholic and Orthodox churches have relics beneath the altar and when the priest first goes up to the altar, he kisses the spot where they are.

Remember that the Church attempts to show us how to act. Yeah, you may not really care that much about the Saints (which, to be frank, makes me question your Catholicity) - all the members of Christ’s Church should one another. We should miss and love these holy men and women who handed on and passed down the traditions and revelations which they received and who have made us a great Church. Our hearts and souls should ache to be in union with them in heaven. Relics incarnate this desire and teach us the proper disposition that we should have to those faithful departed.

Personally I don’t believe they should have touched him. I think if God did something you ought leave it be. I guess thats why I’m church “laity”. I do fine some of what they find simply extrodinary though.

What are you talking about he was embalmed when he was buried. God didn’t do it man did. The Church even said it was no miracle.

Not originally, I’m saying I would have left him be, when he was found incorrupt and not embalmed him. Why they choose to do that, at this specific point? Don’t know.

Why they originally move the bodies is usually for re-location.

Well thats a bit different. It was a Mass grave of what 40-70,000 people it said, with just the bones left. And well I think they did what was best to do with them or they could of buried them again.

Its not like they dug up dead bodies and put the whole body on display.

I mean when you look at the bones you have no idea who your looking at, but with the bodies of Saints you do.

quite an artistic piece of work I must say. thanks for sharing.🙂

Why does the CC have dead Saints bodies on display, and why would they even dig them up in the first place? Thank you.
It’s scriptural.

Psalm 16:10 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see corruption.

Acts 2:27 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see corruption.

The bodies of some holy Saints do not corrupt or decay.
This is one way to verify the sanctity of a person.

they should be in the ground laid to rest.😦
Uhhh, doesn’t just happen in the CC nor with Saints. Lenin’s body is still on display in Moscow for one. The severed vertebra from the neck of Charles I of England (who was beheaded) was taken and turned into (blecch) a salt shaker. Presumably by people who really didn’t like the monarchy

Ask people who have worked in cemeteries for any length of time - they do get full, and remains do get exhumed and moved closer together and things like that. Fact of life.

And mourning jewellery, containing hair of the loved one, was incredibly common in Victorian times. Heck, these days people turn ashes into gemstones or otherwise incorporate them into jewelry.

**Psalm 16:10 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see corruption.

Acts 2:27 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see corruption.**

So are you saying now none of us should be buried.

This is David pleading with the Lord not to let him rot in the grave, but to resurrect him, and also that the Lord will not let him die.

Yes cemetaries have work done, but they need a court order, and also they don’t open the caskets, and put people on display.

If you have ever visited “Ye Ole Curiosity Shop” in Seattle, you may have see “Sylvester” the naturally preseved body of a man found half-buried in the sands of a desert in Arizona in 1895. I am disturbed by the public display of this leatherized, naked man for the sake of curiosity. So I can understand the OP’s concerns after having come across a few pictures of incorruptable saints on the internet. Not all of these incorruptables are as pleasing to the eye at first glance than others. But there is a difference between displaying a body for the sake of curiosity and showing reverence for a body that has been preserved by the grace of God without any natural means. Some of the bodies of saints were preserved despite the conditions in which they were found that should have speeded up the process of decomposition. We view these incorruptable bodies of saints in a way similar to viewing the bodies of our dead loved ones in the casket. They are not on display for the sake of curiosity. God’s ways are not our ways. We need to ask, seek and pray about things that we do not understand. Several years ago, I began to wonder if the saint that I was named after really existed. After all, some of the saints, like St. Christopher, were removed from the church calendar. Then I discoved that my patron saint lived in the 1200’s and her body is incorrupt. This was wonderful news to know that my patron saint is not someone who was just a legendary person. She is real.

Well I’m glad you found out your Patron Saint was real. 😉
