I know that in America we are seeing a bit of a rise in Deaf Brothers… However, what about those of us who are not yet, if not, called to the Priesthood and have a desire or are Deaf/HOH?

What are some vocations or ministries that we can do?

I am Deaf/HOH and wonder what kind of ministry I could end up doing in the Catholic Church…

My uncle is HOH/partially deaf, and he’s in seminary (yay).

Perhaps try getting into contact with your (arch)diocese, and seeing if they have a parish with a deaf ministry??

There’s any number of things you could do as deaf/HOH. I am presently working with a discerner who is writing a rule for a deaf sisterhood. There was a group of deaf sisters who worked at a deaf school in Cincinnati, and we are benchmarking the concept.

St. Rita School for the Deaf in Cincy might be able to help you.

They have a deaf priest alumnus who is writing a book about deaf religious orders.

Cloisters, you might want to check out the Sisters of the Seven Dolors, who are based in Montreal. Their general is the general of the Sisters of Providence. It is a congregation specifically for deaf women, so its constitutions might be helpful for you to peruse. You can find them within the Sisters of Providence website, www.providenceintl.org
