**CM, The problems with SS therein should be very obvious but are not for some reason.

Take just one sentence and see how many directions it can be taken:**

I NEVER SAID YOU STOLE MONEY

If I asked the typical SS practicer if they know the meaning of that they would say absolutely.

But here is what that one sentence COULD mean:

I never said you stole money- ***I ***didn’t say it but somebody else did!

I never said you stole money - I didn’t actually say you stole money, but I thought you did.

I never said you stole money- I thought you stole something else, but not money.

I never said you ***stole ***money. I thought that you probably buried it burned it, but I didn’t say you stole it

Hi Lenten,

And don’t forget: “I never said YOU stole money.” (I said that your son did).

And I have to credit Patrick Madrid, for my part, for that little word exercise. Thanks Pat!

That’s another one.😉

Such a brilliant and concise display of the potential difficulty of self interpretation.

Unfortunately that isn’t exactly the case with believers now is it? The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, but nowhere is it promised to be a one time epiphany and nowhere is it stated in scripture that scripture alone would be that source. The Catholic Church does not teach that and the early church did not believe or teach it.

No faithful Catholic would have a problem with the passage you cite, but it does not attend or apply to us today and trying to make it do so is ripping it out of its context…which easily leads to misinterpretation and misapplication.
😃 Man I get that from you n-Cs so often that it makes me laugh now. You do not even know what my username means and I cannot really blame you since you are not Catholic. (Heck there are probably Catholics reading this post that do not know.:)) However that lack of information is easily remedied here.

The short answer is contained in the following quote.🤷 I’m not the one who seems to be angry and hostile GG. Just because I disagree with some of your beliefs and challenge your thinking and interpretations does not make me the bad guy, though you seem to think so.

Again, I have to ask you, in the words of St. Paul…"Am I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?"
If I may be so bold since I’m new here:

You cannot determine how you seem to ME. Only I can make that determination.
You come off as being too strong and this turns people off. I’ve been teaching and witnessing for a really long time and your method does not work.

I think it’s a little rude how you and Lenten Ashes speak about me as if I were not here reading along. I’m surprised this is allowed - I had the feeling these posts were monitored. I may mention someone at times, but always in a nice way. This makes me feel attacked and makes me desire to leave.

You should stop using the term: you n-Catholics. It goes back to a previous post of mine. How do you converse with someone who uses terms like: We, You, Us, Them.
Do you speak about black people as “them?” I hope not. Why would you do it to a non-Catholic??

You assume a lot about me. And state it up above. What do you know about me?
Are all the fish in a net the same? Are you the same as every other Catholic? I think not.

You think I don’t know what your user name means.
Cute.
And how do you know that I don’t know?

And let’s assume I didn’t know. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?
You use it as another way to attack me.
Not very Christianly of you, is it?

Please read the beatitudes again. The most important part of all can be found in
Mathew 5:2-11

But being that you’re so knowledgeable, you know the beatitudes do not end there. Keep reading…

I have been here longer. I have never found Church Militant mean, rude, arrogant, condescending, insensitive, claiming his own revelation, he does not regard himself as superior, but a servant of Jesus Christ, and has helped me in my journey, and probably others too.

I pray that were the case with everyone.

I’ve always found Church Militant to be both very friendly and very passionate about our faith …neither of which strikes me as a bad quality. However I am sorry you feel we haven’t been cordial towards you. I guess we all have things to learn.

It’s good for us all to reread the beatitudes, as you say, but I’d just like to point out too that love requires that we don’t take offense… there are many verses about this in the bible, incl. Matthew 6, 1 Corinthians 13, and several of the Proverbs.

Thanks for the verses. I think I know them all.

I hope you and Darrly B read the first two sentences of my second paragraph again.

It’s for ME to determine how I feel, NOT YOU.

CM should stop using the term you n-Catholics.

What if YOU were on a Christian forum and I said:

You non Christians and then proceeded to accuse you of all manner of things which might not even pertain to you???

We are all individuals. CM is getting me mixed up with other people. I’m ME, I’m not other people. We should never assume anything. You know what happens when you ASSUME.

However, I do think it’s really nice how you help each other and support each other.
It would be nice if all we Christians could feel like we’re in the same boat and give each other the same support.

I didn’t say all the above about CM.

Please don’t put words into my mouth.
I said he comes off as being too strong and assumes to much and this is not good.

Not exactly sure what you are finding so wrong about that. He was obviously unaware of your former status as Catholic.

Details get lost in long threads.

We have to have a way to distinguish between us in these discussions.

I find the term “Roman Catholic” to be a little offensive, but it’s used all the time here by n-Catholics.

non-Catholics tend to not like the protestant label, so actually using the term “n-Catholic” is a concession made as to not offend.

some people just abbreviates C’s/O’s/P’s

Yes. Terms. Words. Isn’t it all so very stupid??

Protestant just means anything that is not Catholic.
Maybe we should just all use the same dictionary??

Jesus binds us together, even though we disagree on doctrine. He’s still the same Jesus, It’s still the same God , Yahweh.

You know, I have an autistic granddaughter. People don’t like when I use the term “normal” when I’m speaking about other children and saying she can’t do some things “normal” children can’t do. They get upset when I use the term “disabled.” it’s too graphic. Know what? What difference does it make. She’s still autistic no matter what word I use.

I’d rather be referred to as Protestant than as a “you n-Catholics”. I think that’s so bad. If someone gets hurt, tough. That’s what they are PROTESTANT - what denomination is irrelevant. If they weren’t Protestant, they’d be Catholic!!

Plus, it’s not necessary to say YOU anything. What if I said “you Catholics”? Wouldn’t that distance you from me?

That’s enough of this. I have nothing against C.M. I just wish he’d calm down a bit.
I forgive. 70 X 7 !

I would have termed it differently…“THE” protestants or non-Catholics instead of “you”.

Many protestants think the reformers have restored the true Church, thus they aren’t ‘protesting’ anything and it’s the Catholics that need to return to orthodox Christianity.

Anyway, good to hear a different perspective. I need to bookmark this post so the next time we get called out for using protestant we can have a example that not all find it offensive.

Thanks

Good.

Tell them that anything NOT Catholic is Protestant. They could study up on that.
Also, tell them that if they CHOOSE to be PROTESTANT, they should at least be proud of it !!

Plus, it’s simple history. If you go back, the Catholic or Universal church is the original church. And then Luther DID protest against what he thought was wrong and the Pope wouldn’t change.

It’s history!

Refreshing to hear a protestant acknowledge that.

I thought it was kind of weird when Protestants would claim that they believe in what the early Church teaches and all this stuff and etc etc but Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses claim the same thing they claim there was a restoration to the gospel so why are they Protestant and not Mormon or Jehovah’s Witnesses? Fortunately we Catholics have history on our side.

it someone believe things like solar scriptura or sola fide then well guess what? They are a Protestant. Nevermind that scripture they are using to argue against the Catholic Church came from the Catholic Church. Anyway former Catholics don’t exist a former Catholic it’s just a non-practicing Catholic they may no longer identify as cow fight but they are still technically Catholic. , I take issue with the term Roman Catholic because it originated as an insult I am a Latin Catholic that uses the Roman Rite. You know oddly enough melkite originated as an insult too. But you don’t hear people using “Melkitism” to describe thes upposed**** pagan origins of their Church. Anyway I take issue with the term Roman Catholic for other reasons too for one it’s unfair to Eastern Catholics. I remember talking to a friend of mine that converted to Catholicism he’d been Methodist Presbyterian and was baptized Disciples of Christ. He kept referring to the church as a Roman Catholic and I said why is it Roman Catholic and not just Catholic? What he said because he was raised to call it that and I said well do we really need to make a distinction why can we not just be Catholic? I don’t find the term Protestant to be all that and so think I mean if you belong to a tradition that protests the Catholic Church then you are a Protestant

Protestants are CHRISTIAN.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are NOT Christian.
They don’t believe Jesus is God.

I don’t know enough about Mormons.

For those restoration movements, if they want to return to the Early Church, the first thing they would have to do is abandon Sola Scriptura because that was alien to the early Church.

In the case of the LDS and JW’s they actually do rely on sources outside the bible. Unfortunately, the Book of Mormon and Watchtower are man made.

We have the living tradition of the Church and a promise of infalliblity. No restoration movement has that, nor will they ever have that, regardless who or what they try to conjure up down the line.

Protestants are CHRISTIAN.

Denying the Trinity, or refusing to believe that Jesus is God should be enough to get them kicked away from the religion of Christianity.

Agree, and if they are a validly baptized Protestant, they are imperfectly joined to the Church.

I think those who use the term “Roman Catholic” do it intentionally because they know the word Catholic means ‘universal’, and they don’t want to acknowledge that. They wish to continue with their beliefs and stereotypes that the CC is this evil, insidious, Popish, Romish cult, the whore of Babylon. They wont say all that to your face, but in their own circles, this is how many of them talk, unfortunately. I found that talk offensive as a protestant just like I hate when devout Catholics refer to protestants as our lost brothers and sisters or whatever else kind of label they come up with.
