Sounds like the answer would be to go right to the cause rather than just deal with the symptom. Has his doctor given him any hope of beating the diabetes?
You can’t beat diabetes, you can only control it. When he was first diagnosed he was very good at watching his diet, probably the most important factor in control. He lost about 45 lbs and the amt of medication he had to take kept going down, down, down (he was only on oral hypoglycemic agents). Once he started to feel better, out the window went the diet & the exercise. Steadily the weight crept back, his carb intake increased and now he’s at the max level of hypoglycemics and taking insulin twice a day. He’s supposed to test his sugars 4X a day and I know that he goes weeks without doing so. At this point he’s on blood pressure meds, cholesterol control meds, oral hypoglycemics and insulin. He takes so many pills in the morning and evening that I’m surprised he even has space left for food.
Now he says he’s lost weight, but I can see he’s really lost muscle mass (and the weight that goes with that) but his fat level is as high as ever.
I’ve heard that erectile function is a barometer for overall health. He really should consider this to be a red flag not to be ignored.
You can’t convince him that he’s got a problem. It’s like every other problem in his life: ignore it and it will eventually go away. He’s been lucky so far, but I doubt his luck is going to hold out much longer.
