Robert in SD:
It may be helpful if, when they come back, you answer the door wearing the full regalia of a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus (sword included, of course). šŸ˜ƒ

Charity,
Tried that. Didnā€™t work.

I talked w/ a JW @ work. He always ate his lunch by himself. so I figured he could use some company. Little did I realize that they are NOT to have meals w/ ā€œsinnersā€.

Anyways, he had me pegged as a typical WASP. When I told him I was Catholic, he had to retool.
That explains my co-workers disposition. Heā€™ll sit at the break table reading JW literature, and maintain a polite but distant presence at the table. He must be a liberal JW eh?

I have a friend who is a JW from way back and was kicked out. Her grandmother was one of the originals who gathered around the founder, I donā€™t recall the speicifics about their history. She said she was a ā€˜pioneerā€™ which is some status she implies. She was a roomate of mine for about year and we had good discussions that concluded in her believing catholic teaching and that she didnā€™t know the reason why she believes that JW;s are right. Her words. What I wonder would penetrate through the layers covering that paradigm?

could you post picture of your regalia would be interested to see what it looks like once saw knight of st gregory in full regalia at cathedral sevice for our new bishop looked quite grand

I had 2 JWs ring my doorbell yesterday also. I was polite and told them I am a happily practicing Catholic . we talked about reading the bible a bit - they assumed I read the Douay - I use the NAB. I am always polite but firm and donā€™t invite them in. They are unfailingly polite and I donā€™t dislike them. I feel as sorry for them as they probably feel for me. I wonder what they thought of the lovely statue of Mary near the walkway?

Yesterday I was visited by two Jehovahā€™s Witnesses. They gave me a copy of their Watchtower and Awake! magazines. They read from the Bible and said that they would be back later.

What is the best way to handle this situation?
Personaly, I iwould nvite them in, give them something to drink, and then state the obvious. ā€œYouā€™re hear to convert me to the JW faith, correct?ā€ To which I would imagine they will say yes. I would then offer to discuss which church is correct on the following condition: I will convert to their faith today if they can show me that my belief is unreasonable, but only if they open themselves to convert to my faith if I can show them that their belief is unreasonable.

From what I have heard of JWā€™s (although I must admit I have never had to deal with them) they will most likely balk at this. If they do, I would simply say ā€œHow can you make me believe that your beliefs are reasonable when you are afraid to apply reason to them?ā€
