what happens if mostly everyone you know is vehemently against Catholicism or Catholic teachings, and you constantly run into arguments about this. Is it better to just stay silent and never express your views on any given topic???

For example, today I was talking to my mom and accidently mentioned that I agree with the Church’s view on contraception. I totally understand my mom’s concern, and yes it’s a difficult teaching, but she got REALLY worried about me and sort of freaked out… now I don’t know what to do.

When I meet up with my non Christian or non Catholic friends, someone almost always ends up making some negative comment about Catholics.

When I go on facebook, I see accusations against my faith too. lol.

I even had a dream about a person yelling at me “there are no Guardian Angels!! they don’t exist!!” after I had just said a prayer to my Angel last night.

It’s hard being a Catholic these days lol.

anyone agree? how do you deal? do you just not pay attention? I don’t’ want to feel like a martyr or anything, but it’s hard to ignore…

There is nothing wrong with feeling like a martyr. That just means you’re offering it up and that’s a good thing. I’ve not had a big problem with opposition, but most people where I live are pretty tolerant. I would say that if they don’t confront you, don’t say anything. If they ask you a question, tell the truth and don’t be ashamed. Jesus said that they would hate us because they hated Him. It’s perfectly normal to be hated for being Catholic. (Be glad it’s legal!)

Just remember the attitude Jesus had towards His persecuters and try to emulate that.

You can’t do much about your mom but you get to choose who you are friends with or who you share your time with, I would say people who would openly insult the Church in front of you knowing you are a Catholic are not really your friends personally and you should follow Christ’s advice and not have anything to do with them.

I had to do this with some friends when I was younger and I can tell you it was the best decision I ever made…

My dear friend Monica

I think we all experience this at times. We are the dry wood and cannot expect to be treated better than Jesus.

Prayer and sacrifice for them. Preach by example is best. When they ask questions then answer them, but don’t push your views on them too much.

That’s my 2 cents.

I’ll pray for them.

May God bless you all:thumbsup:🙂

I have family and friends like that. I try to do the following:
  1. Trust that the Lord is leading them also.
  2. Do all the Lord calls me to do and then leave the rest to God.
  3. Try to understand as much as I can about Catholicism.
Theology is not what saves us; Love is. I’m very grateful that the Lord has drawn me to the Church. I also know that the Lord gave me this grace because of my wretchedness. I see that some of my protestant friends are better people than I am even though they do not have the fullness of the truth. So while I try to defend the Church whenever possible, I am learning to be humble and loving no matter what.
