Dealing with problems in past confessions

I realized several months ago that there were times I made invalid confessions because of omission of sins, and/or details at the time of the original confession (sometimes in these earlier confessions I confessed to more embarrassing things and thought that “sin x, y or z” wasn’t a big deal—I had a misguided idea of confession, and there have been times where I was intentionally vague on details regarding my sins etc). Most of these original bad confessions were some years ago. Sometimes I have (even more recently in one case—although at my next confession I made a point to talk about that) confessed things rather generally or worded things in a somewhat deliberately vague way as well, but the Priest didn’t ask me to elaborate. I have talked to several Priests in the last several months about my errors, and confessed what i didn’t confess at the time or clarified vague statements I had made in the past and explained my situation, and my anxiety about the whole thing (including Communion when I wasn’t in a true state of Grace). I do suffer from OCD and I can get scrupulous. I have explained that as well. No Priest has instructed me to try a general confession, and one Priest in particular seems to want me to move on, stop dwelling on my errors and sins of the past and accept that my sins have been forgiven. He seems to understand scrupulosity better than some other Confessors (that is my opinion, from my experience). The problem is I am still dwelling on this, and am worried that whatever other sins I confessed at the time of my bad confessions were not forgiven (although some I have re-confessed when explaining the original errors, because they may have been related). I am confused and I have the urge to keep going and talking with Clergy about this, but I have also read that persons with scrupulosity SHOULD NOT do this. No Priest has suggested making a big general confession when I explained my problem, and I have gone to multiple confessions about my errors. Should I accept that after confessing my past sins and the errors I committed and explaining my situation that I should “let go” and move on? I just have so much doubt that I have truly corrected my problem. Scrupulosity and these nagging doubts are awful. I have been second guessing these recent confessions about past confessions too (whether I made a proper confession) and while I know intellectually it is a bad idea to keep confessing about this, I wonder if I should try a general confession even though no Priest has suggested this when I explained my errors. So I have gone to Confession, been absolved and then later the doubts return. I know this IS NOT the place to bring this to also, because CAF tends to trigger scrupulous impulses in me.

If multiple priests have advised you against it, let it go.
The salvation of souls is their buisness- Trust them!

I didn’t ask about general confession but no Priest has suggested it either. They have let me explain my issues, and then granted absolution, without making me re-confess all the past sins that I could think of.

Ah. My bad.

If you have a regular confessor, bring it up to him.

There are multiple Priests in my Parish, and some of them I go to more regularly than others but I don’t have one confessor (which I should). It would be a lot easier if I did. But it is a large Parish and busy. I do think I should just trust them and God’s mercy, but my OCD is like a constant nagging voice sewing doubts in my mind. It is just awful. I got an attack of doubt this morning, which is why I posted this.

Follow the priest’s advice and do not make a general confession. That can be harmful to those with scruples. Listen to the priest!!

Get under regular spiritual direction for your scruples AND get into therapy for your OCD.

I definitely should trust the Priests (they went to Seminary and some have been Priests longer than I have been alive!), and if they haven’t made me re-confess everything I could think of that I might have confessed at a “bad confession” where I omitted sins or details and still said the Words of Absolution after I told them what i had done, i should assume that they felt they had enough information?

So I should assume these past sins (the ones I did confess properly) are all forgiven as well as the ones that I did not confess properly and told the Confessor about in a later confession?

The problem is that I still feel doubt, and making a bad confession can end up causing more sin(the bad confession itself, Communion not in a state of Grace,) and I feel like I have had years of accumulating sin, even after I had a proper confession! This is such a horrible doubt to have.
