Quiet a few of the shows I like to see on Netflix have sex scenes (to varying degrees). There have been times where I have been in a near Occassion of sin in terms of impure thoughts as a result (sadly).
I’m thinking what should I do as a moral choice? Would I be obliged to skip watching the entire show if I know of the sex scenes? Alternatively would it be appropriate if I watch the show despite its sex scenes but skipping over those scenes?

I try not to watch films that involve sex film or have bad messages, sadly some still come up whilst i’m watching it. I know St Gianna Molla would enjoy films, but would refuse to go if they involve any kind of scandal. Over the past few years i’ve given up friends which was one of my favourites, because it has such a bad message.

Now i understand the term, enter by the narrow gate.

I think it depends on how you react. It sounds like a major temptation for you, so I’d err on skipping the shows entirely or using a filtering service like VidAngel (my husband and I have done this and we like it.)

There are many things in life. You should be able to experience things and not let them overcome you. Words and images do nothing and should not control you. You can observe and be enlightened. Experience and knowledge help us to help others. It is not healthy to let words or images control you.

Many people are too frail nowadays. If you let words bother you, then there is no solution. You can be bothered, stressed, upset, etc., by words for the rest of your life.

This is the crux of it in my mind. You have to know yourself and how you react to things. What may provoke sinful behavior in one person might make no impression on another.

Whatever you have to do to avoid those near occasions of mortal sin, as doing so is obligatory (when possible).

Personally, I avoid anything I know contains scenes like that; I don’t need that stuff in my head at all and it’s not as if skipping them consists simply of pressing a button and getting directly to the next scene. I like to be cautious about this and I think as a result the quality of what I watch has improved.
Words and images do nothing
If they are near occasions of sin they certainly don’t do nothing.
