Hi, Everyone. So this is my first time posting on Catholic Answers. Kinda nervous, since I’ve never done this before.

I’m 19 and for the past 7 years I’ve dealt with ssa. These last 7 years have been really ruff for me. I have a severe masturbation problem. I feel so uncomfortable around other men. Especially around guys my age. I get really nervous around other guys, I know they can tell something is up. It’s so embarrassing. I don’t have any real friends. I just started a new job, which is going OK. I have never felt comfortable around other men. Which is really depressing. I have never been excepted by other men. I’ve been told by my own family that I’m not manly enough.

Last year I met this really cool guy online, We have talked about meeting up and being together. I’m still a virgin. Other than my masturbation problem, I have remained chaste. There have been a couple of times where I planned on meeting men off of craigslist but I stopped before we met.

I feel like I have a calling to become a priest but there are so many obstacles stopping me. 😦

Does anybody have any advice for me? What I should do? Also the only people who know about my ssa is my friend and priest.

I’m worried I will end up giving into the gay lifestyle. I feel so safe and happy around other gay people. I believe this is the devil tempting me.

I dunno what I should do. Prayers would be greatly appreciated. I feel so alone and confused right now.

This is my first time posting, Hope this is the right spot. God bless!!!:signofcross:

Welcome OctoberMan96.
Be at home.
Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength, fortitude & wisdom to overcome your temptations.
God bless.

:gopray:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now ever shall be world without end
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

FYI the Prayer Intentions forum is not the place for others to give advice. It is designed only for prayers. You have mine. I must caution you, however, to be careful meeting people whom you have spoken to only online.

Hello and welcome, October.

I experienced SSA for most of my life up to about the age of 33 or 34. Seek out a good priest to talk with. Maybe a counselor as well?

Try to be at peace and don’t stress over problems with sins. Give it all to God, go to confession, and keep your focus on Him.

And since this is the prayer intentions forum, please know that I am keeping you in my prayers!

God bless you, dear one!

I apologize for posting in the wrong spot:blush: Thank you all for the prayers. I really need it.
I will keep all of you in my prayers, too.

There’s a third way in this. I’ll PM you the details.

Peace brother.

I don’t think there is ever a “wrong spot” when someone is troubled. Asking for advice is a prayer in itself just as every breath we take is a prayer. At the end of his post he IS asking for prayers. He has our prayers and anyone can PM some helpful thoughts or advice if they wish. My God bless him and keep him.

I suggest talking with a priest; during confession, behind a screen, might be good because you can remain anonymous and might even make you feel a bit more comfortable. Remember priests have heard it all and nothing you can say will shock or surprise him. God bless you.

I have found in my own experience, October, that some of the biggest temptations are in the form of worrying about tomorrow, the future, etc. Of course, you are at a difficult point due to being 19, because you essentially cannot avoid thinking about/planning for the future…I can recall being right in your shoes at your age, about 20 years ago. I can also recall feeling the call to ‘the seminary’ (I heard God’s voice in my heart)…of course, I thought it was a done deal, that meant He was calling me to be a priest…what I didn’t realize was when I went and told the director of the seminary this, I got a instant spriritual advisor, who helped me discern in earnest, and eventually, after being encouraged to date and get out in the world a bit, I didn’t feel the same call.

What I eventually learned was a very clear vocation and the will of God for everyone, a good starting point for you: love God with all of your heart, your soul, your strength and your mind…allow yourself to fall madly in love with Jesus…it’s something that in my fallen human nature, I still work on, and have to make a conscious effort to do. But take the leap of faith…give yourself to God completely. Stay close to the sacraments…Mass every day if you can…you were created for God and will be restless until you rest in Him.

Know that we will be praying for you, dear brother!

Thank you all so much for the prayers. I am going to confession every week or sometimes twice a week. I am going to mass every Sunday.

I just want to be pleasing to god. Again, Thank’s guys. I will keep all of you in my
prayers. God Bless. 🙂

I pray that you will find the RIGHT
path in life, guided by the Spirit!!

Our Father, who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your Name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us,
(forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors)
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is w/ you,
blessed are you among women,
blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now and
at the hour of our death.
Amen. (X3)

I’ll say a few prayers for you.

If you haven’t already, at least look to see if there is a Courage chapter near you. I am not sure that Courage works the best for everyone (I don’t know that it has helped me ton, though it has in some ways), but as far as I know, it is the only ministry toward those with SSA that is officially accepted by the Church, and I would wholeheartedly recommend you look it up and, if circumstances allow it, to at least give it a shot. Their website is couragerc.org.

Praying for you to be able to find your way in this world acording to God’s perfect plan for you.

We all go threw some problems in our lives, but if pray to OUR LAD Y one Rosary with all your Heart, she well come to your aid, for she is the Mother of Graces, then continue too say the Rosary ever day,she will be your protection,. I had masturbation problems, but Our Lady of Queen of Heaven and Earth continues too help me keep it in check. May the Holy Spirit
keep you close too Mary, Jesus and his Father. AMEN :harp:

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
