I too read this article and frankly, I am not surprised. Dear Abby has made her political opinions public knowledge on other occasions (a few months ago a person wrote in about putting a pet dog down, and Dear Abby replied ‘If only we all had that option’)

I googled key words in the story and found no such story. Try and find it please. I don’t think it ever happened.

<<<If their daughters are pregnant, they have not been responsible parents.>>>

Sending a 12-13 year old child to the movies used to be a fun Friday night thing for kids to do. The things that happen in these movies theatres are shocking to say the least. I’ve just tried to teach my kids morality, consequences for choices made etc…

One thing I have learned as my kids became teenagers is to never say never! It can happen to any of us.

Planned Parenthood hires ministers to give their diabolical mission a shred of credibility in the eyes of Christians who are too weak to follow the word of Christ.
Yep! and when any “minister” even “sides” at all with PP, then they cling to him like buzzards! (you know those gross birds that eat the dead!)

Take the Epsicopal Gay Bishop Gene Robinson for instance…He was a “keynote” speaker at a PP breakfast back in April!

Hmm… This is the case of an abusive father who could have beat her up about many other things besides pregnancy. So we are supposed to base our laws on abusive parents? In that case I guess we better not allow parents to know when their kids are arrested for shoplifting. We better not let parents know when their kids fail science class, or if their kids were caught smoking or doing drugs behind the school bus garage.

We shouldnt’ force kids to take home report cards, and they need to do away with parents giving permission slips for field trips. Kids can make their own decisions whether they want to go to school, we can’t tell parents when kids cut class because they might beat them if they find out.

Parents should *not *be permitted to have any medical information, even if they request it, as long as the child can’t give permission for the doctor to do so. In fact the hospital shouldnt’ inform parents that their children are even there.

Parents have to sign permissions slips for their kids to go to a science museum, but shouldn’t be given medical information or give permission for their daughters to undergo a serious medical procedure that can cause injury, infertility, even death?

IMHO, if there is a genuine concern that a father would severely beat his pregnant daughter, CPS should be involved anyway. Giving the girl an abortion without her parents knowledge doesn’t solve the problem of child abuse - it sweeps the problem under the rug while leaving the girl in a dangerous, abusive home.

This is akin to the argument that abortion is needed because a woman might get beaten by an abusive husband or boyfriend when he finds out she’s pregnant. The baby isn’t the problem, the abusive boyfriend/husband/parent is.
Yep and lets not forget the severe abuse of the unborn baby.

I am voting against it. They say it is working in other states, but I doubt that. I have a problem with laws that affect only one segment of society. This is one of them…

You’re voting against the parental notification law?
I can’t understand that. I’ve been so frustrated because I can’t send cough drops with my kids to school without a doctor’s order, and yet my high schooler could get an abortion without my being the wiser.
This is total insanity. Parents have the right and responsibility to advise their children in times of crisis, like an unplanned pregnancy.

Care to elaborate? I am going to guess that you do not have any children. If you do, how can you vote against something that would help keep your child out of harm?

There are many laws that affect only a “certain segment of society”. I fail to see how that is an excuse to vote against protecting children…

I’ve never understood the fuss about parental notification. When I was 14, I had to have oral surgery. It wasn’t anything major, but my parents had to be there, had to sign consent forms or the doctor wouldn’t do the procedure. But, I could have had a major medical procedure like an abortion without them knowing?? How insane is that. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I just don’t get how having parents involved in their children’s lives is a bad thing.

Wel lets see-does this man you oppose a a minimum age for driving? Drinking? Having sex? Getting Married? Owing a gun?

After all they affect only one segment of the population.

Not only has parental notification laws significantly reduced the abortion rates in Sates that have adopted there has been NO corresponding increase in child abuse.

Of course, the abusive father is not the only problem. Who is the father of the child. Not telling the parents or any other serves the sexual predator more than anyone else.
:yup: Once again demonstrating that evil and misdeeds, like mushrooms, flourish when they are kept in the dark and fed lots of bull****. (sorry–this is a hot button for me)

And of course the lack of parental noticiation laws helps Planned Parenthood immensley. Abrotion is a half billion dollars a year industry in this counrty and is a major surce of income for Planned parenthood

As a Crisis Pregnancy Counsellor I frequently had to deal with young girls who told me their parents would ‘kill’ them.

My advice was to get the mother to a public place, such as McDonalds, and tell her. This would give her time to calm down before they were alone. I suggested the mother be the one to tell the father, while the girl arranged to stay overnight at a friend’s house.

I also offered to go with the girl while she told her mother and we had emergency accomodation available if she couldn’t go to a friend’s place or if her parents threatened to kick her out or force her to have an abortion.

Bella,
Do you have kids? Did you know that you have to have parental notification and signed permission to get your underage childs ears peirced at the mall but you don’t legally have to be notified if your child goes for an abortion? They can be taken from school to Planned Parenthood but they are not allowed off school grounds to buy lunch off campus?!?! Its called common sense to notify parents.

Parents have to have signed a consent form before the child can have a tylenol, sign a permission slip before they go on a field trip, or even sign their report cards. But they can get abortions in many states without any parental involvement. It just doesn’t make sense.
