The news report came on

Down to -40

It’s literally so cold it’s the same in Ferinhieght as it is in Celcius.

I just can’t even. Fortunately, my area is only supposed to hit between -10 and -30F. (-23 to -34C)

But seriously insane.

So, very, very, very cold.

Tomorrow is gonna 12F when I get to work 😬 And everyone is getting sick 🤒

It got down to 20F down here in the Mid-South today. Fuh-reezing.

Without windchill it was 4 at noon today.
I thought I was going to die when I ran errands. I think it was -8 with windchill I heard someone say.

I lived in Omaha for one horrible winter. Nice town, lovely people. INSANELY cold.
brrrrrrr

Same here. Very glad I’m off work at the parish for 2 weeks.

At these temps, strays are long-dead. Even some of the wild life has a hard time.

9 degrees F here & plummeting. Heating bill is going to be through the roof

I just pray my old furnace will survive

already had a water main break on the street due to frozen pipes

in this type of weather, 68 degrees F when people are at home

66 when no one is at home

otherwise, prepare to take a second mortgage 😦

So that’s around 20C I guess.Hope the poorer people have heating 😦

well, i hope so too

the price of heating oil in the US has been rising steadilly despite abundant supplies

not sure about that

you can keep your house “liveable” at temperatures far below 66F

we had a major “superstorm” here a few years ago; many of us lost power for weeks

the temp inside my house dropped into the 40’s F; a fleece sweatshirt, a constant fire in the fireplace & 4 blankets to sleep; somehow we got through it…

The coldest it gets where I live is about -2 C, and only for about 5 days in Winter…

well here in the NE US, at least for the next week or so, we are going to have deal w/ temps far below that

the good news is that, at least, where i live, there are no major snowstorms predicted here

but check out the horrendous conditions in Erie, Pennsylvania

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
Heavy snow has been falling on Erie, Pa. since Dec. 24, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

According to the National Weather Service, 65.1 inches of snow fell on Erie from Christmas Eve night to Wednesday at 7 p.m. The snowfall set multiple weather records.

The current temperature here is 33 degrees Fahrenheit, so about 1 Celsius. This is actually too cold for me. And, it’s going to get colder both for the highs and the lows. It’s actually not the lowest temperature we have for tonight. You know, I live where it’s supposed to be warm all year round, since I’ve seen single-digit temperatures here I know that’s not necessarily true. That’s single-digit Fahrenheit.

Thanks for that 😮
🤔 would a house covered in snow actually be warmer? If they did receive up to 7 ft?

What temp do most people set their furnaces at ?
I am embarrassed to admit I have it set to 68F (20C) day or night. I could tolerate colder, but I’m pampering myself (and the family) somewhat this winter, so far.
