Time for some scripture reflection. Are we all following God’s saving scripture?

But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the husband the head of his wife…1Cor.ll:3

Any woman who prays of prophesies with her head unveiled brings shame upon her head, for it is one and the same thing as if she had had her head shaved. For if a woman does not have her head veiled, she may as well have her hair cut off. 1Cor.ll:5-6

As in all the churches of the holy ones, women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speek, but they should be subordinate,. But if they want to learn anything, they should ask their husbands at home. For it is improper for a woman to speak in the church. 1Cor.14:33-35

Wives, be subordinate to your husbands, as is proper in the Lord. Col. 3:18

A woman must receive instruction silently and under complete control. I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man. She must be quiet. 1Tim.2:11-12

Sure.

And I’m obeying the men of the Church whom God has put in authority over me when I don’t veil. The Vatican (as in our church leaders, given by God to instruct us) have said in precisely so many words that wearing a veil is a pious custom but of no normative value. A pronouncement that is backed by the requirement to veil being removed from Canon Law.

So I am being submissive to the men of the Church whom God has put in authority over me if I don’t wear one :getholy:

But aren’t you disobeying them if (I don’t say when) you insist that their reading of St Paul’s words is wrong and substitute your own or that of any lesser authority?

So I am being submissive to the men of the Church whom God has put in authority over me if I don’t wear one - mind you if you feel moved to wear one I would fight for your right to do so as a pious custom of long standing :getholy:

But aren’t you disobeying them if (I don’t say when, because I don’t know that the following is your position) you insist that their reading of St Paul’s words about veiling is wrong and substitute your own or that of any lesser authority? Just a thought - mind you the same thought could be applied to the other scriptures you’ve cited as well.

Is this a joke?

I’m well aware that all those verses are listed in scripture, but usually people (including the men) I know say these verses jokingly because they know they’re taking it out of its full context.

And that context is that yes, women should be subordinate to their husbands, but as it is stated in Ephesians in that same discourse, men must love their wives as Christ loved the Church (as a servant). Men and women are supposed to serve one another. Wives submit to the husbands who are supposed to serve their wives the way Christ did. Christ laid his life down for the Church and its members. We are equal in dignity but complementary in nature. John Paul II discusses these ideas both in his letter to women I think back in 1995 and also in his Apostolic Letter Mulieris Dignitatem (spelling?)

I prefer to stay single than to have to submit to a husband. That is too much work for me. It is really nice being single.
I am truly happy that I have been able to financially support myself. My Mom always felt I should have a husband so he could financially support me. But God has been good to me. I am an old lady and truly happy with just me and my dog. Luci

Ummm…I’m going to assume that you are a woman since your name is Sophie…

Shouldn’t you follow the instruction in 1Tim2:11-12 and just “be quiet”? Aren’t you violating the very passages that you posted?

Dear Sophie, Listen up! You need to learn to enjoy life. I am a lady who follows Jesus and he knows my name.
We all here have a scense of humor and it is time for you to get an attitude adjustment. You are being too harse on us ladies.
I live in God’s light and love. I wish you the same. Luci

Well said. It appears that Sophie has alot of time on her hands.

Thank you, Matthias. . .that was the passage I was referring to in my response to the original post. That might be an even better starting point since Mulieris is VERY long, and I see that a CA Staff apologist explains some of it there.

And…what is your point with this post? Before we all go on speculating further, what is your pont, since you failed to make one here.

Huh. I’m watching Easter Vigil Liturgy live from the Vatican, and there’s a woman from the USA reading from Exodus. Her head isn’t covered. Somebody better let the Pope know. Oh wait- he’s sitting just behind her.

I’ll take his interpretation of Scripture over a random internet poster’s.

That goes for me too.👍

But, a lot of the women in the pews are wearing head coverings.

Personally, I wish the custom would return.

It’s a beautiful custom and I don’t think any woman should be criticized for observing it. However, the OP presented those verses as “God’s saving scripture”. Obviously the Pope does not believe that a woman must cover her head or keep silent to be saved, and I’ll go with his opinion as he is the Vicar of Christ and the successor of St. Peter.
