24Sep13…If kids misbehave in Church, give them a good, swift smack on the arse. That will ‘cure’ this nonsense real quick. Thanks for sharing.
Father of 2,4,and 6 year old churchgoers!
PS. Don’t read the article comments…total downers I shake my head for the future of humanity.
Sigh.24Sep13…If kids misbehave in Church, give them a good, swift smack on the arse. That will ‘cure’ this nonsense real quick.
25Sep13…No it isn’t. You have taken things out of context.Sigh.
It’s so up-lifting to see the spirit of Jesus and His message alive in the pews. Physical violence is the answer to all the problems of the world.
Children aren’t less well behaved because they are spanked less.25Sep13…No it isn’t. You have taken things out of context.
Proof of ‘sparing the rod spoiling the child’ can be seen all over today. It’s not very encouraging to see our youth in the streets acting with rudeness, carelessness, and the whole nine yards.
How would you like one of these that’s covered in tattos all over his arms and neck and filled with body piercing sitting in your living room asking for your daughter’s hand in marriage!!!
Ps: Jesus, Himself…got angry and took a whip and drove the money-changers out of the temple. He knew when to become physical ‘in the pews’.
25Sep13…Oh gimme a break. There is always an odd case that turns out alright. But the majority of those kids who do not get a spanking when they ‘deserve’ it end up becoming monsters. Pretty much ALL of the Greatest Generation was raised with corporal punishment. Its needed more today than ever.Children aren’t less well behaved because they are spanked less. That’s an easy excuse to a complex parenting issue. Society has changed, the value of life has changed, the way people view children has changed. They way society views marriage has changed. My father was born in 1931 he was never spanked and is a well disciplined, law abiding, successful man as were his siblings. My father-in-law was raised with corporal punishment in the 50’s. He did drugs in his youth, created my husband out of wedlock and although is now financially stable has serious psychological problems and was an abusive father. So what does that mean? That all people raised without corporal punishment are successful, well adjusted people and those that are spanked are not? Hardly.
When its legal to rip children from the womb in the name of choice, when half of marriages end in divorce, when children grow up in broken homes -when children’s lives are chaotic and they are expected to deal with adult issues as children your going to see a lot of rebellion.
Children crying church hardly means they’ll grow up to be tattoo covered criminals.![]()

You need to educate yourself on the latest research about spanking.25Sep13…Oh gimme a break. There is always an odd case that turns out alright. Funny, I was spanked as a child and I have tattoos and a facial piercing. My in-laws love me and were thrilled when their son announced our engagement. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to finally get my quarter sleeve done. Oh, and I’m in law school.25Sep13…No it isn’t. You have taken things out of context.

And yet another wonderful thread gets run down the spanking rabbit hole.Funny, I was spanked as a child and I have tattoos and a facial piercing. My husband was never spanked. He has no tattoos and I don’t think that there’s a force on earth that could make him decide to get one. He has a master’s degree and a great career.
Spanking, tattoos, and future success aren’t as linked as you seem to think.
That was pretty much the point of my post. I don’t believe in spanking personally, but I don’t hate or resent my mom for spanking me. My husband wasn’t spanked, but he was disciplined. Spanking is not the end all be all of discipline. And yet another wonderful thread gets run down the spanking rabbit hole.
The issue is not spanking vs not spanking .
It’s discipline vs lack of discipline.
The military doesn’t spank their recruits yet they turn our highly disciplined.
I have spanked and due to a number of reasons I no longer spank, but I discipline my kids. They are 2,4, and 6 and can sit through mass with the only aid being books during the homily. (No I’m not perfect just pointing out that discipline does not require spanking)
Our culture is full of a bunch of narcissitic brats because they were never disciplined. They were given whatever they wanted when they wanted. They were spoiled and given “participant trophies” and now they are shocked that the world doesn’t give adults “participant trophies” and mommy and daddy don’t pay for their every desire anymore.
Discipline whatever form, is what is required. Building boundaries and guiding paths.
I read about the term “rod” in that verse. It actually refers to a shepherds crook. More correctly translated as “spare the shepherds crook spoil the child”. The shepherd did not go around hitting the sheep with his crook, he guided them, steered them, and pulled them back from danger…he disciplined them.
