A few days ago I prayed for my friend’s family member to get better soon (because they had something very bad happen to them, won’t go into much detail) and for my friend to feel happy. But sadly, my friends family member just passed away today. Is there a reason that they died even though I prayed for them? Is it because I’ve sinned too much and this is “karma?” Not sure…

thank you all

The person died because God willed it was their time to die.
You had nothing to do with it.
Catholics do not believe in “karma”.

Sometimes God says yes to prayer and sometimes it’s no or not now. The no or not now answers have nothing to do with you but rather what His plans are. Since God sees the whole picture and we only see a portion we must have faith and trust.

No prayer goes wasted. Who knows, your prayer may have brought them closer to God spiritually.

Maybe the person was ready to join the Lord. God knows the heart and his judgment is always much much wiser than ours.

I’m sorry you, your friend and their family are going through such an upsetting event. Please don’t blame yourself for this family member’s death. Nothing you did could have led to ‘karma’ and this tragic outcome. Please talk about this with your family and your Priest.
