How old does a foetus have to be in order to get a death certificate?
I know when I miscarried and had to deliver, I was not given one, but
don’t you think this would help hammer home about fetus being human -
It seems if the government would do that then when someone got an abortion and was given a death certificate, maybe they would think more about it the next time.
I am prochoice in a very few circumstances - I.e. the mother’s life is in peril and one or two other times - but not as a method of birth control. If the woman was given a death certificate that might help them informing a concience about what had happened.

Since the secular state is not concerned with establishing the humanity of the “fetus”, it would not be in their interest to issue death certificates. As a matter of fact, I believe they would try their utmost to prevent any such thing, since that might be the start of the slippery slope toward restriction of abortion. Remember, this is your president who said that determining when human life began was “above [his] pay grade”, and who also stated he would sign the FOCA bill as soon as it crossed his desk.

I think all states now record abortions and miscarriages as part of the death statistics for some time now. There used to be some states that issued a DC for aborted babies back in the 70s&80s, but where sued to stop the process. Tenn was attempting to put this into legislation, but it been fought off pretty hard. There are a few states that are trying to issues death certificates for miscarriages, but the “Pro-Choice” groups are fighting it tooth and nail.

Wouldn’t you need a birth certificate first? I mean, birth usually comes before death. 🤷

A death certificate is not issued unless one first had a live birth, so no it cannot be turned into a political tool. What would one do with it anyway to make someone who had an abortion look at it? Would one tie them down and force open their eyelids? Would it only be done to the women or would we track down the men also? Would this same practice be done to women who had a miscarriage that might have been due to their own fault from smoking or drinking or being too obese or too skinny or not taking all of their prenatal vitamins also?

Sounds pretty ridiculous doesn’t it?

One does not change people’s hearts by such aggressive means. There are far more compassionate and loving ways to reach someone who might have had an abortion. We as Catholics should be able to think of more compassionate ways to bring the Light of Christ’s love and truth to all people. I would hope that we have a better grasp on how to deal with people without harkening back to the days of the scarlett letter and placing people in stocks in the town square. Their mortal sins are no greater than our own in His eyes and all mortal sin severes our relationship with God. I think that many times we lose sight of this in our zeal to protect unborn life at the expense of the living person standing right in front of us. Jesus says that we are serving Him when we help the least of His people. At times that may be the woman who just had an abortion. We can’t bring back the baby that is already gone, but we might be able to change whatever circumstances made her choose an abortion to save future babies and the woman. Losing her to hell for unrepented sin is no victory for Christ.

Gianna Jessen had the opposite problem. Her mother intended a saline abortion, but she was inadvertently born alive while the abortionist was out of the room. The abortionist ended up having to sign her birth certificate. The attempted abortion caused serious physical damage, but she has recovered and is now a well known speaker and performer, and ardently pro-life.
