I came across this fundraiser to help send Fr. Walker’s family home to the funeral and to help with all of the expenses. ( I read elsewhere that he is the middle of eleven children.) Any money left over will go to the Fraternity of Saint Peter. In case anyone wants to contribute , here is the GoFundMe page: gofundme.com/fr-kenneth-walker

On June 9 I received an email from Fr Terra in response to my request about attending their Latin mass.

I just read this email again.

He wrote:

You are very welcome here at Mater Misericordiae.

God bless,
Fr. Terra

Now I need to go and pray for the Fr Walker and Fr Terra, as well as for the man who did this, so that he finds faith and asks for forgiveness.

A five-minute 911 tape was released by the police dept. in Phoenix. It’s unpleasant to listen to, but Fr. Terra doesn’t say anything about a burglary - just that they’d been broken into. Poor man. The 911 operator expected him to try to do CPR on Fr. Walker while waiting for the police to arrive, but being seriously injured himself, it must have been very difficult.

We are deeply saddened to report that a priest of the Fraternity of St. Peter, Fr. Kenneth Walker, age 28, has been killed during a robbery at the Mater Misericordiae Mission in Phoenix, Arizona. The robbery took place Wednesday night about 9 p.m. (Mountain Standard time). His confrere Fr. Joseph Terra, 56, was seriously injured; I have been informed that his condition is currently listed as critical but stable. The local news report can be read here. Of your charity, please pray for the eternal repose of Fr. Walker, for Fr Terra’s recovery, for their families and for their parishioners.

(CNN) – A priest was killed and another critically wounded in an attack at a Catholic church in Phoenix, police said early Thursday.

The Rev. Kenneth Walker was fatally shot, and the Rev. Joseph Terra is hospitalized in critical condition, police and church officials said. It was not clear what type of weapon was used to attack Terra, Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department said. A 911 call came in about 9 p.m. Wednesday (12 a.m. ET Thursday) from the Mater Misericordiae, or Mother of Mercy, Mission Catholic Church, Martos said.

The church celebrates Mass in the traditional Latin.

The emergency call to police was for a burglary and was made by one of the victims, Martos said. When police arrived, they found the two priests badly injured. Walker died at the hospital. Terra, the injured priest, was only able to minimally speak with authorities about what happened, Martos said. The priority is for him to be treated.

A green 2003 Mazda Tribute was stolen from church property, police said, and it was found abandoned. “The police are still gathering information and trying to sort through the details of this senseless act of violence,” the Diocese of Phoenix said in a statement. “We ask that people offer prayers for both priests, the religious community, their families and the parish.”
Very sad. Prayers for both priests. Deepest sympathies to Father Walker’s family and all who loved him. May he rest in peace.

There will be a Requiem Mass for Fr. Kenneth Walker this morning at 9:30 am, celebrated by Fr. Flood, FSSP:

livemass.net/LiveMass/daily.html
I don’t know if this is working. If it is 9:30 Mountain Time it would be 8:30 in Seattle. Right now it is 8:52 and I’m not getting the requiem Mass. When I click on “Live” on the right hand side I get “stream not found Live”

Sorry, I should have said 9:30am Pacific time, so it should start in about 35 minutes. I’m in Seattle, too.

I think that it’s actually being broadcast from Switzerland, but I’m not absolutely sure about that.

The Mass will start in a moment; to view the Mass on the link, just click the tab on the lower right of the page that says, “live.”

Indeed. It seems he was bragging about the assault and someone overheard.

I am at a loss as to why someone would assault priests and kill one and brag about it.

Also as to why it took so long for anyone to react and report this guy to the police.

The killer seems to have a long life of crimes behind him. Some people maybe do belong in prison, unfortunately… 😦

My priest was a classmate of Father Walker’s in the Seminary. He spoke of Father Walker’s great virtue and love for God. May God bless and keep Father Walker. May he rest in peace. I thank God for his vocation.

Fr. Terra was our assistant pastor for several years at the FSSP parish in Denver. We LOVE him. He is incredibly talented and has the greatest sense of humor. Praying for his recovery and for the repose of Fr. Walker’s soul.

Eternal rest grant unto Fr. Kenneth Walker, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

I thought his name sounded familiar. Then I must have attended his Mass in Denver when I was visiting there a few years back.

Wishing him a speeding recovery.
