Everyone is gunning for the Pope, and when that gets tiresome they jump on Mother Teresa of all people.

One of the things that confused me when I was Baptist was the joy certain people took in proclaiming who was in hell and who wasn’t. The better a person was morally, the more glee that was taken in annoucing that person was in hell. Gandhi is a good example. I’ve sat through a sermon where the pastor took almost psychotic delight in telling us that Gandhi and Mother Theresa might have been good, kind, noble people but that they were burning in hell because works don’t get you to heaven.There is no room in this kind of thinking for invincible ignorance or the humble belief that you can’t judge another’s salvation. This whole attitude sickened me. It just seemed so unChristlike and uncharitable.

In all fairness, I should point out that not all protestants or even all Baptists think this way.(I don’t like to stereotype) But it is tragic that some people who are good, kind and sweet will suddenly begin spouting this nonsense without realizing how unChristian and loving that it sounds.

I am so amused to see that this guy said that the Pope led a life contray to the Gospel and to Christ who had nowhere to lay his head.

On this website all I can see are words like ‘donate’ , ‘purchase’ and of course the online store!! Who indeed really is falling prey to the prince of this world? This site is one big contradiction I’m afraid.

See when your so spiritually blind it is so hard to see anything straight.

I wonder does this Mike gendron guy know that after JPII’s election many vans were sent to Kracow to pick up the Pope’s belongings. All that was there for them to collect was a single black cassock he had brough all his possessions except that in a single suitcase.

We all know JPII’s last will and testament? Yes? Then lets live with the happy memory of having one so blessed and leave the ignorant to guide the ignorant.

That Dallas Theological Seminary has been mentioned often in other non-Catholic sites. I know a lot of protestant preachers (Charles Stanley, Pat Robertson, D. James Kennedy) subscribe to the teachings of D.T.Seminary. Charles Ryrie & Lewis Sperry Chafer are their “popes.”

Sad to say that you can add Dr Tony Evans to the group. I used to love listening to him until he started with the . . . . .

Don’t worry fellow Christians,

In summer 2006, prepare because we will see the biggest attack on all Christianity; especially the Catholic Church with release of the DaVinci Code!

As false as this movie is, its going to make most Christians re-evaluate who they are, at what they believe in! Its going to force non-catholic Christians to uhhhh …uhmmmm read a little history for a change. And you know this reading might be life changing for some fundamentalists.

I was listening to the Bible Answer Man show I believe last week and Hank was defending attacks by the DaVinci people with actual Church Councils. Imagine that, Fundamentalists using Catholicism to defend their positions! This is a false accusation because Church father said this, or Church council said that, they will say!

Like I said, this movie might make some fundies to do some historical digging!

We have our opinions of him - they have theirs. They aren’t obliged to think he was a Good Thing, or a Good Man - any more than we are *obliged *to admire this or that Protestant worthy. About Gandhi being in Hell - that might strike us as intolerant and mean-spirited, but in fact it’s good Catholic doctrine. The Church is so necessary for salvation, that pagans cannot enter eternal life if they are not in some sense united with it. The Council of Florence would have agreed in saying Gandhi is in Hell if he was not somehow united to Christ; because union with Christ, unites us with the Church. Being nice people, is not good enough - we have to die in a state of grace. Without grace, salvation is impossible. If Gandhi died in separation from Christ (and so, from the Church) - and only God knows whether he did - then, it follows necessarily that Gandhi is damned: “if”, being the operative word.

That having been said, that ministry is not famous for its broad-minded tolerance of Catholicism, or of anything resembling it - they don’t much like Anglicanism either: too Catholic. Though some of the individuals on the site are good sorts. But then, why worry about being liked or admired ? ##

And I am a cradle Catholic led astray by evangelicals and protestants and “non-denoms” for over 34 years before having the good sense and guts to sit down and really “study to show myself approved” at which time I concluded that the Catholic Church is all it claims to be and that all the rest …are not.

I was led astray because I was woefully ignorant of what I believed and why and it was my own fault for never listening during the previous 17 years of my life. I wanted to be a Southern Baptist preacher at one point, but they couldn’t handle the “gifts of the spirit” and so I went Assemblies of God and eventually was a deacon there until I saw the stuff that went on behind the scenes and left because they too said they believed the Bible yet ignored parts of it and blatantly disregarded others.

Five years ago I was accosted by a guy who jumped my case because I had a Catholic Bible in my hand and who then proceeded to allege the usual “You Catholics worship Mary” trash which even I knew was wrong. I promised him I’d check it out and get back to him with what I found and that if he was right, I’d never step foot in a Catholic Church ever again. I found These FREE courses and discovered that not only was he wrong about out beliefs about Mary, but everything else as well.

Y’know…that guy wouldn’t even discuss it…

Needless to say I came home and have been studying the Bible and Church history and apologetics and the whole bit ever since. My walk with Christ, though difficult sometimes, is better than it’s ever been before and now I’m a Fundamentalist’s nightmare…and evangelizing, “witnessing” Catholic. I know my faith now and I’ll never let go of this beautiful treasure that God in His mercy has drawn me to. God help me to sell all that I possess and go quickly and buy this field in which I have found it!

If it’s anything like “Understanding Roman Catholicism”, it won’t be very well-informed.​

ISTM that one of the problems with those described as ex-Catholics, is knowing whether they are what they are said to be, or not. What is certain, is that a lot of books said to be by former Catholics, and criticising Catholicism, are not very well-informed - although some certainly are (as one would expect).

Having been a Catholic for umpteen years is of no significance if the former Catholic has no ability to deal fairly with his subject matter - a book on Calvinism is illuminating, not because the author has been a Calvinist for umpteen years, so much as because the author is capable of theological insight and can see how Calvinism “hangs together”: IOW, because the author has a good understanding of his subject. So a rant filled with inaccuracies by a former Catholic who was RC for 40 years is useless as a help to understanding Catholicism. ##

I read a book by “supposed” former nun Mary Ann Collins called Roman Catholicism. And trust me, her work is extremely anti-Catholic. The first time I read the book my blood pressure rose in anger! So I read the book a second time, not because I thought a ton of stuff she said was true, but because I knew that if I could take these accusation without getting irrate, rather calm, I could be better suited in my study of apologetics, and perhaps maintain the love and reverance as Peter says when sharing our hope!

By the way, I did send Mary Ann Collins a response in her website. She never got back to me! Oh well!

When Pope John Paul II left this world I was so sad. I don’t recall ever feeling the emotion I felt then. I never met him, I do have a pair of Rosaries blessed by him. He was the only Pope I ever knew.

The word “IF” was my point exactly. No one knows what Gandhi thought moments before death. As, we are not God we can not proclaim who is in Hell or not. The sites and sermon that I have referred to read do not use the word IF. They are very definite and certain. In fact, they are almost gleeful, no, they** are** gleeful.

I am not arguing with the rest of your post because I do agree with you. My point-and I probably said it all wrong-was that a few fundamentalist take a superior sort of gladness in deciding who is in hell. Not that I think niceness alone gets us to heaven or that we don’t need GOd’s grace.

Maybe extreme joy over a person’s eternal damnation is a southern thing.

These “anti-catholic” evangelists are quite “slick” with their websites and TV “shows” and it is easy to fall into their “way of thinking.” I was a big follower of Charles Stanley…loved to watch his TV show and thought he was a great preacher. Went to his website and started his “course” there. Got about 1/3 of the way through and began to realize that some of his “teachings” didn’t add up. They have a “forum” on that site too and I got into it. That is where I was referred to the site I mentioned in this thread. That really opened my eyes. These people are cruel at times and I just gave it up! Thank God I found this forum!!

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut, Sandusky. The way you refer to DTS makes it sound like DTS is a Catholic institution but of course, it’s not.

Gendron claims to have gone to a Catholic seminary but states things like “having to know a biography of every Pope” that are highly suspicious. To say he was Catholic for 37 years says little. If he believes the stuff he says about the Catholic faith, then he was dozing in the pew – or else he is blatantly bearing false witness. I knew his kind of stuff was utter rot even when I was not Catholic.

You would think that a desire to preach the Gospel would inspire a love of truth. Go figure. Sad. Sad. Sad.
