injection is an unstable method of injection. even done skillfully some people just suffocate consciously to death. the psychological torture is much more severe than many other methods.

If there must be a death penaulty, I prefer long drop hanging. no one yet showed conscious suffering at the hands of a skillful hangman. Albert Pierrepoint can do his job in 7 sec. Can lethal injection achieve this?

John Yurich:
Darrel,

The murderers do not deserve to be free of pain during their execution because they did not care how much pain their victims went through when they were killed. The murderers deserve as much pain as possible when they are executed.

John
Have faith in your God John, for he can deliver much more severe punishment than we can, for eterenity at that…Justice will prevail.
personally I am for the death penalty, and believe it should be extended to violent sexual crimes, especially child molestation. I will have to rely on God for people getting what they deserve. That is also in the bible. don’t be like a prot and only follow the parts of the bible that justify our feelings and ignore the rest.
Remember, God wants us to walk in His ways, not in our worldly ways…

First let me say I am totally opposed to the death penalty. God is the ultimate judge of when we live or die. But lately I’ve been reading up about the injection method and it’s not at all a painless way to die. It’s an inhumane, cruel method. It causes intolerable agony to the person.

Please pray to God that they will do away with this procedure and soon. Also pray that God will have mercy on those scheduled for this type of execution that he can mitigate the severity of it in a miraculous way.:gopray:
I, also, do not favor the death penalty. I believe that there is a better chance of enacting laws eradicating capital punishment and racism in America than there is enacting them to prohibit abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem-cell research or waging war.

That having been said, I know that one can continue to remain a Catholic Christian in good standing and support the death penalty and waging a war in some cases (despite what Sr. Prejean and some others may say). One cannot continue to remain a Catholic Christian in good standing and support legalized abortion, racism, euthanasia, or embryonic stem-cell research…yes, even including those who are priests, Bishops and Cardinals, whether they have doctorate degrees in Moral Theology from Georgetown or Harvard or not. Their orders may be valid, but, unless they repent and seek God’s forgiveness, they too shall be cut off eternally “from the land of the living.”

I too am opposed to the Death Penalty which I see as a form of euthanasia. If I have no right to an easy painless death (and death by injection is less painful than most regular deaths) then these jerks have no right to a painless death. No one has the right to death all of us have the obligation of life for as long as God intends us to live. We all must suffer( that is live) and eventually die. To that purpose I have a living will that states " If I die by murder the Death Penalty should not be applied" My lawyers say that this will be taken into account at any trial. I have also indicated to my relatives that they are to speak for the murder if I should be murdered.

John Yurich:
turboEDvo,

Yes the use of condoms by married men is acceptable. Abortion is not ok except in the rare instances of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.

John
you failed to give the bible citations for these or your other claims. of course, having written your own version of the bible, they probably would not agree with my NAB, RSV or DRC, would they. What church to you belong to? accepting new members? how convenient to interpret the bible to fit your own prejudices.

This is hypocritical. How can you support the death penalty yet be against euthanasia? Don’t Catholics consider both murder? Just because one is state-sanctioned and one is personal doesn’t make it different. So the rights of the state are considered priority over the rights of the individual.

This is where I and the Catholic Church will never agree.

Death penalty should be reserved for crimes that are difficult to commit at least for ordinary people so that they won’t commit crimes for euthanasia.

I think death penalty should only be for abortionists. compared with serial killers they don’t have any mental disorders. they kill more than serial killers. their crimes require technique so it’s not easy for someone else to mimic to get an euthanasia

Hanging is also an atrocious death. The brain stem is severed you are paralyzed and breathing stops.

If done properly the neck is broken when the weight hits the end of the rope. Death is from a broken neck, NOT from suffocation. OTOH it’s not that easy to control so I agree it’s a really barbaric way for a person to die.

Actually, todays methods of death penalty are very humane. Compared of course to say, Elizabethan England.

If a person is hanged, it is their weight that snaps their neck and kills them.

It is only when the weight isn’t enough, when the person suffocates.

The electic chair send so many volts that I doubt if you put the power up the person shall feel it. They die in a matter of seconds. The heart stops, they do not ‘fry’.

And BTW: A married man can’t use a condom. And killing the child of a rapist is the same thing as killing any child.

It is not hypocritical. A hypocrite is one who says or professes on thing and does something else. Your disagreement with the Catholic church is more of a theological issue and goes beyond any single issue.

As to both being murder, that is not supported in the Bible or church teaching. In the Old Testament, murder was prohibited, but the criminals could still be put to death. Today, Church teaching states that taking of an innocent human life is murder. Taking of a life in self-defense or defense of another is not. Capital punishment (for those who support it) must be viewed as an extension of this principle. The justice system can only take a life to protect the innocent of society from those who threaten it’s citizens.
