This is something that has bothered me for awhile. As I will be visiting the grave sites of several family members tomorrow It has brought it back to mind. When my Uncle passed away a few years ago a lady I work with whom is a JW gave me a pamphlet about dying and it said that when you dye you are basically just a sleep in the grave till the finally judgment. AT which time if you are saved you will be resurrected if not you will just cease to be. So what they are saying is everyone that has died is asleep waiting for the end of time.

Now I have heard the expression of those asleep in Christ is this what that means. I mean I have always thought that when a person died they either went to Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory as the case maybe.

There are other sects besides the JW’s who believe those who have died are just “asleep.” I think they base it on a verse or two taken out of context.

I wouldn’t pay any attention to what that woman or any other JW believes. Theirs is a made up religion with little resemblence to our Faith which we know has been handed down from the Apostles and preserved by the Holy Spirit.

Thank you, I asked her if she found that comforting to think that instead of them being in heaven already. I did not, it bothers me to think of people just sleeping in there Grave. I much prefer to believe that once you have passed on you move on as well.

They do have the bit about the final judgment right; inasmuch as they believe that all the souls who have died will be judged at the general judgement. The “cease to be” part is sci-fi at best, though.
