It may happen that I could be engaging in a debate in a couple months. I am looking for resources on how to debate. All I really have is practical experience, one-on-one discussions.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Perhaps you could search for the free online MP3 by John Martignoni called “Apologetics for the Scripturally Challenged”. It might teach you how to debate and how to learn more about using Scripture to do it.
