Dec. 1 and 2 -- First Friday and Saturday

I’m still fairly ignorant, but I do regard highly both First Fridays and First Saturdays. At least I try to do my best with First Fridays. My local parish has special First Friday masses (and they also have a worship service on other Fridays).

“First Fridays” is adoration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
“First Saturdays” is in reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I generally get to “First Fridays” (only a few skips in awhile). I can’t do everything but I do what I can (I’m not yet confirmed). And it seems that some small measure of the “First Friday” promises has been given to me.

I have a hard time figuring that there is a difference. I know the promises are different, but really if either set of promises is attained it seems to be equally so wonderful.

God (including Jesus) gave Mary her Immaculate Heart. Mary (with her Spouse the Holy Spirit) gave Jesus his human and sacred heart. On the back of the Medal of the Immaculate Conception (also known as the “Miraculous Medal”) there are both hearts. Not one bigger than the other. Not one higher than the other. Mary leads us to Jesus. And at the cross Jesus tells us Mary is our Mother (as well as being the Mother of God). Mary’s heart was pierced by swords. Jesus heart pumped His Precious Blood even while He was dying on the cross.

Instead of saying I’m confused (because I don’t think I’m too confused), I think it is more accurate to say I’m overwhelmed by the riches God has provided to us. I think the ladder analogy is inaccurate because to me I think both are so much worth it. I can’t say one is harder than the other. I can’t really do either “all the particulars”, but I think Mary understands and I try to do what I can do. I’m still a sinner, but it seems that I am getting better with time. I hope I don’t get as angry when things don’t go my way.

And yet there is so much other treasure also available – dedication to Mary, service to Jesus through ministry such as (singing, playing musical instruments, being a lector, visiting elderly in nursing homes, helping RCIA or religious education. And confraternities such as the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. And religious orders, and family life (Holy Matrimony).

I know of one protestant author who makes this analogy: our life in Christ is like having won a game show where there is a limited time to shop for free and grab as much merchandise as we possibly can. In other words, there is so much treasure on the table that Mary and Jesus, the Saints, the Holy Souls, etc. To me it seems that the only wrong decision is not to do anything. The right decision is to follow your heart and the leading of Jesus, Mary or the Holy Spirit and to find what you should be doing for God with your life. And then to do the work in the Power of the Holy Spirit (in a state of grace).

“Only one life – will soon be past. Only what is done for Christ will last.” One thing I learned as a Protestant Christian.

Even though I think I have attended one stretch of nine Fridays, I cannot say that I have fully attained anything. So I continue, at least in part because I have been given the grace to enjoy going to First Fridays. I’m usually more than a half hour early and pray or read. Then when it starts, I participate. And sing the hymns, pray and to receive the Priest’s blessing when he blesses all of us. And often to stay some afterwards to read or to pray or to walk the stations of the cross.

That is so well put! I’ll remember that one…👍

The readings for today - from Rev.22, about the Tree of Life, that bear fruit , Twelve times a year ! …

While the Tree of life is also understood as The Eucharist, (with its promise of immortality and which God in His mercy, did not want our first parents , to consume , in their fallen state), there is the mysterious refernce , to the ’ twelve times a year , once each month …’

In God’s Church, guided by The Spirit , we come to marvel… that this month - special for its awesome joy of The Fruit of The Womb …🙂 , we are also invited to rejoice… that The Church - The Tree of Life , has also grown … bearing The (special) Fruit - of the First FriI-Sat devotions … twelve times a Year … and all the special graces promised with it !
As we come to this NewYear in The Church that starts today, with the Advent Season, and its expectant faith, of more good things to come through His grace , even as we are still rejoicing for all that took place recently …with the visit of The Pope , to a place called the crossroads of East and West …inspite of its bittersweet irony of the Divine Liturgy where the two Father / Patriarchal figures present -yet one could not recieve The Eucharist …

Again we come to the Tree of Life that grew - ‘on either side of the river’ - The Tree , of Communion - for The East and West …

And of the leaves of ’ the trees '…that serve as medicine for the nations …
(True we only see now as through a glass …and many of these glorious events point to the fuller glory to come )…

yet …we know how the ’ leaves’… of the trees bring the healings even now …The Word and Sacraments . …the devotions . - of Rosary, Divine mercy, Eucharistic Adoration…the leaves of the papal directives and guidelines, on the all important matters on Life and marriage …and yes , even the above devotions , which are healing , for all nations …

The medicine for the nations - we have the upcoming Feast of Immaculate Conception , on Dec.8th with its connection to Lourdes… The Miraculous Medal and its promise of grace of protection and conversions …then Dec.12th, Feast of our Lady of Guadalupe (with 9days of precedent Novena in many places ) - that brought healing to The Americas , breaking the idolatry of the stone serpent …the idolatry that in many forms , still has grip on hearts , that blind many - to the simple and great truths of The Kingdom …

May the faithfulness of The Church, to bear the fruit , twelve times a year, conitnue to bring blessings - that All can sing …the Song of Moses and of The Lamb … trusting in Fatherly providence and guidance 🙂

I went to a local chapel at the Queen of Peace in Sioux City, for my devotion today. We said the rosary, said the mass, and had eurcharistic adoration afterwards. It was a great way to start off advent! I’m going to get ready to go to confession in just a little bit.

If any of you are ever in NW Iowa, you have got to go see the Trinity Heights Queen of Peace. Give me a call and I’ll give you a personal tour! 🙂

Wow! That shrine is wonderful!

Wow! That shrine is wonderful!
Truly so - and to think of the commitment and efforts of so many …

As we coninue in this month of December , pregnant for its Feasts that celebrate New Life and family …could it not be providential that today’s Feast - of St Ambrose , who had talked of the Bl. Mother being without the stain of sin , in the early Church … is the day before Dec.8th…

The Feast of The Immaculate Conception …a concept that seemingly has been difficult for many to accept … May the prayers of Sts Ann and Joachim ( whom tradition hold, were barren , and had prayed and fasted much , before they were granted the singular privilege of being the parents of The New Eve , the one through whom , the curse was to be reversed ) be with us all …

And again, coming to that part of the Book of Rev. ( 22) , that talk about ’ fruits’ and healing leaves, we also hear a promise - ’ nothing accursed will be found there anymore ’ …

as well as the exhortation - to not seal up the prophetic words .

The Dogma of Immaculate Conception …has it also been the the unsealing of the prophetic words …and thus, of the fountain of healing waters …by The Bride Faithful …so that the children can now drink in… with confidence …from the healing waters of trust , in the Infinite goodness of The Father …🙂
