National Conscience Protection Grassroots Campaign Launched

catholicadvocate.com/2012/01/national-conscience-protection-grassroots-campaign-launched/

“There are 17,782 parishes in the United States,” added Smith. “If faithful Catholics were able to average 115 letters per parish to their Representative and each Senator, Capitol Hill would receive over six million contacts on this issue. We would send a powerful message that cannot be ignored.”
I’ve sent mine. And I will be on the phone on Monday. They’re going to hear from me til this is fixed. A few thousand people like me and they’ll be glad to fix it.

Remember the story in the Bible of the old woman who nagged the judge til he threw up his hands and gave up. Yeah, that one.

LoL… yes, that verse seems very familiar to me, I still think some people can remember me from years ago on a child support issue - on a intrastate case. Two states were involved in making a determination on which district had jurisdiction rights over my son. You haven’t lived until you had an argument with a supervisor over the idea of conception - the state where conception took place, fortunately that district/or state laws is not a conception state, at that time, legal jurisdiction to gain support/paternity judgment and determination on the child’s behave.

During that time, the child support service center had detain someone in a whole different jurisdiction (California). I had received a phone call to come into the child support office to answer questions, the officer (child enforcement officer) still detained this person for another couple of days before releasing them - this person’s wife had just delivered her first child. The procedures and policies of state must change, that is, in regards to HHS policies & procedures - even on child support issues, in order to bring proper judgments to court. The formalities of paternity/support/benefit - in order to receive medical benefits to expected mothers could/and was a legal nightmare. Over the course of 19 years - I had seen three attorneys to gain legal custody because of a ruling that a state referee made on a judgment that listed on the paperwork “to be determined” and the documents (also) openly listed both my son’s and mine social security numbers; I had paid out of pocket expenses for travel to view court documents; and also went out of my way to see the district/county and state attorney’s over this issue.

While the father was visiting his child, there had been threats that they were going to throw the book at the father but while in the same flex another department was detaining a family member - how can someone follow a chaotic procedure, like this? I don’t get it! I felt that both myself and my son were in the crossfire, and at that time, and that shouldn’t have happened. I was asked to sign support papers stating the father’s income - I had refused! Meaning I didn’t cooperate and could have lost all my benefits at that time. The threat wasn’t toward the father - the threats were made to me, as the mother because I refused to sign a legal document, without any knowledge how much the father made? and the supervisor told me ‘not’ to show the paperwork to the father - I asked, Why?

When it comes to HHS - in all sincerity, I just shake my head on these issues, its true what the Pope said ""We have seen how power became divorced from right, how power opposed right and crushed it, so that the State became an instrument for destroying right — "

It’s not that I don’t know how to stand up for my rights - its just the way state administrators handles their policies, and what they do…to individuals. Its not right!

Every one relax, it has been all over the news today that the President has dropped the requirement for Catholic institutions to provide contraception. 🙂

No he hasn’t. He “adjusted” the mandate and he made it worse. Go out on Google and look it up.

Better yet, read the latest statement from the USCCB: usccb.org/news/2012/12-026.cfm

Dated today, early evening, between 7PM and 8PM.

It’s still unsatisfactory.

I’m very glad you’re keeping up with the latest updates because that’s exactly what it takes! Bless you for your strength and true zeal, you’ve given me hope and confidence! That this issue will not waiver until we have it right!

Andrewstx - there are many issues on the table especially with employees/and individual who are paying into that health care plan that will not be using part of that plan’s option, however whatever they don’t use their insurance premiums will be used by others to cover the cost. No one wants to be responsible for paying for that - not even the institutions.

Again, this issue is not over and the insurance companies can’t force nor the government, due to a person’s personal religious beliefs, to buy into a plan that is against the moral conscience - and yes, even though my personal story is not on topic - its about refusing a wrong and how the people in these government institutions follow protocol - the system (itself) is chaotic and administrators are not enforcing how these procedures should be followed and when someone steps out of line. I heard that once the government involved themselves into the area of family law or family (period) it really made a mess out of the structure. The church only wants the government to leave this area alone, and to not force individual to choose other measures of insurance. What I heard at church last Sunday - was no different then the choice I had to make when I refused to cooperate. The penalties are high to pay…financially.

I’m worried that pressure will let up. Catholics in America, the world is watching. Standing up for truth and justice there has tremendous ripples all across the rest of the World. Do not allow this false communistic compromise to fool you into accepting a breach into sacred ground (conscience) by your top administration.

I never used to get the big deal about socialism and communism until following this whole affair. What it basically boils down to is dictatorship- the slow (but quickening) death of democracy. One person, or a few, unilaterally imposing what he thinks is best on everyone else. Obama is either trying to force religious institutions to violate their conscience, or private businesses (insurances) to offer certain products and at no cost. Either way, forcing someone to do something for another when it’s not even a basic need (contraception)- just to further an ideology that children and population growth are dangerous. And all this in a way to by-pass the checks of the people’s representatives and even Courts. This is dictatorship in the making. It’s very chilling to witness it in the foremost democracy in the World.

Hi, Andrewstx,

Would that that were the case. Here is a link:medpagetoday.com/Washington-Watch/Washington-Watch/31123

Obama is truly gifted in the ‘slight-of-hand’ technique for working a crowd. First of all, the issue is just not contraception - there is the HHS requirement for sterilization and abortion causing drugs to be included in the insurance program.

Secondly, it is just not about money - as in who pays for something. Our President must think we all woke up from under a cabbage leaf… insurance companies can be told that they will not charge for a service - that’s OK in the ‘slight-of-hand’ approach. The insurance companies will simply factor in all the costs associated with this ‘free’ service into their regular premiums. But, this still isn’t the real issue.

Third and most important - Obama has dug his heels into the ground and will not change - that he and his administration will determine freedom of conscience and freedom of religion. He truly either just goes not get it (difficult to believe) or he is going to dictate and measure out according to his standards how our consciences will function and where true religious liberty lies. This ‘compromise’ is meaningless - but what is truly Obamaish is that it is deceptive. We have already seen him promise one thing and then turn it on its head as he did at the Notra Dame graduation ceremony he attended.

In my opinion, what makes this man so dangerous is that he views the Congress as something that merely rubber-stamps his decrees. His unilateral determination NOT to defend the Defense of Marriage Act - and act that won the overwhelming approval of Congress - and is the Law of the Land - is most telling. There is nothing for anyone to conclude that this man will not veto a law that defined conscience and religious freedom as has been the case since the founding of this country - and if such a law were passed over his veto that he would not simply ignore it (like DOMA) refuse to enforce it and write more regulations that conform to HIS view of reality. He really is out of control when it comes to acknowledging that this is a country of laws and not men.

God bless

Hi, Marybeloved,

Thank you for your excellent post! 👍

Your comments on the importance of democracy are so important but themselves - and given your location have even more impact. 🙂

Here is what the US Catholic Bishops have to say about about Obama’s HHS compromise: marketwatch.com/story/bishops-renew-call-to-legislative-action-on-religious-liberty-2012-02-10 Basically, the focus is to go to the Congress and the Courts to get this overturned. Let us pray for the success of our Bishops.

God bless

While I completely agree with your post, I’ll make one exception. This president is depending on democracy. He is depending on more people supporting this than opposing it. And using a “majority rules” approach to now requiring insurance companies to transfer their money (property) to another against their will. He’s hoping that, since these companies will raise their premiums in order to cover the costs, that there will be an outcry against this new scheme.
Instead it is, and has been, a slow (but quickening) death of constitutional representative republican government, which the constitution institutes. As Jefferson said, “Democracy is 51% of the people taking away the rights of the other 49%”. We are not seeing the slow death of democracy, we are seeing it in all of its ugly action. It is what the founders tried to protect us from.

Sorry, I wasn’t aware of that, I was just going by TV news story.
The news media in this country is in on the deal, particularly certain companies, and yes they’re companies.

Beware and get independent information when you can. The internet is good. They haven’t yet figured out how to shut everyone up on the Internet.

Obama is depending on his self-perception of himself as a very great man. He believes he is great, which he is not. And he is depending on the propaganda to paint the picture to the general public that we’re intolerant, which is ironic, because he is. The problem is that the general public doesn’t know what to believe part of the time, and the general public is occupied with work and amusement most of the time. A lot of them aren’t paying much attention to this, even though if it goes on, they will pay and pay and pay like the German people did after the Third Reich. They don’t know that YET. A fair number of them think this is business as usual because they don’t know any history to speak of and they need to be informed about what’s going on and what it means to them.

Agree with everything you say. And that’s the point. He’s depending on the general public to demand that, 1) he intentionally violate the enumerated powers limitations on the central government, and 2) either violate religious execise rights, or property rights. In other words, democracy!

Teddy Roosevelt Speech - Inaugural address

My fellow-citizens:

No people on earth have more cause to be thankful than ours, and this is said reverently, in no spirit of boastfulness in our own strength, but with gratitude to the Giver of Good who has blessed us with the conditions which have enabled us to achieve so large a measure of well-being and of happiness. To us as a people it has been granted to lay the foundations of our national life in a new continent. We are the heirs of the ages, and yet we have had to pay few of the penalties which in old countries are exacted by the dead hand of a bygone civilization. We have not been obliged to fight for our existence against any alien race; and yet our life has called for the vigor and effort without which the manlier and hardier virtues wither away. Under such conditions it would be our own fault if we failed; and the success which we have had in the past, the success which we confidently believe the future will bring, should cause in us no feeling of vainglory, but rather a deep and abiding realization of all which life has offered us; a full acknowledgment of the responsibility which is ours; and a fixed determination to show that under a free government a mighty people can thrive best, alike as regards the things of the body and the things of the soul.

Much has been given us, and much will rightfully be expected from us. We have duties to others and duties to ourselves; and we can shirk neither. We have become a great nation, forced by the fact of its greatness into relations with the other nations of the earth, and we must behave as beseems a people with such responsibilities. Toward all other nations, large and small, our attitude must be one of cordial and sincere friendship. We must show not only in our words, but in our deeds, that we are earnestly desirous of securing their good will by acting toward them in a spirit of just and generous recognition of all their rights. But justice and generosity in a nation, as in an individual, count most when shown not by the weak but by the strong. While ever careful to refrain from wrongdoing others, we must be no less insistent that we are not wronged ourselves. We wish peace, but we wish the peace of justice, the peace of righteousness. We wish it because we think it is right and not because we are afraid. No weak nation that acts manfully and justly should ever have cause to fear us, and no strong power should ever be able to single us out as a subject for insolent aggression.

Our relations with the other powers of the world are important; but still more important are our relations among ourselves. Such growth in wealth, in population, and in power as this nation has seen during the century and a quarter of its national life is inevitably accompanied by a like growth in the problems which are ever before every nation that rises to greatness. Power invariably means both responsibility and danger. Our forefathers faced certain perils which we have outgrown. We now face other perils, the very existence of which it was impossible that they should foresee. Modern life is both complex and intense, and the tremendous changes wrought by the extraordinary industrial development of the last half century are felt in every fiber of our social and political being. Never before have men tried so vast and formidable an experiment as that of administering the affairs of a continent under the forms of a Democratic republic. The conditions which have told for our marvelous material well-being, which have developed to a very high degree our energy, self-reliance, and individual initiative, have also brought the care and anxiety inseparable from the accumulation of great wealth in industrial centers. Upon the success of our experiment much depends, not only as regards our own welfare, but as regards the welfare of mankind. If we fail, the cause of free self-government throughout the world will rock to its foundations, and therefore our responsibility is heavy, to ourselves, to the world as it is to-day, and to the generations yet unborn. There is no good reason why we should fear the future, but there is every reason why we should face it seriously, neither hiding from ourselves the gravity of the problems before us nor fearing to approach these problems with the unbending, unflinching purpose to solve them aright.

Yet, after all, though the problems are new, though the tasks set before us differ from the tasks set before our fathers who founded and preserved this Republic, the spirit in which these tasks must be undertaken and these problems faced, if our duty is to be well done, remains essentially unchanged. We know that self-government is difficult. We know that no people needs such high traits of character as that people which seeks to govern its affairs aright through the freely expressed will of the freemen who compose it. But we have faith that we shall not prove false to the memories of the men of the mighty past. They did their work, they left us the splendid heritage we now enjoy. We in our turn have an assured confidence that we shall be able to leave this heritage unwasted and enlarged to our children and our children’s children. To do so we must show, not merely in great crises, but in the everyday affairs of life, the qualities of practical intelligence, of courage, of hardihood, and endurance, and above all the power of devotion to a lofty ideal, which made great the men who founded this Republic in the days of Washington, which made great the men who preserved this Republic in the days of Abraham Lincoln.

Teddy Roosevelt

What it boils down to by the Obama Administration is this:
Much more than the picture shows but the fact is, is that someone has put a face to it and that’s not totally true. We have the government into the area of family law (government) and the power to exercise their authority into the health care system. There’s a story, as much as I can remember it, about a man who has three sons, who while he was sitting outside his house gets robbed. The father tries to tell his sons about the thief who robbed him but sons ignore the father, and they send him back home. While on the way home, the thief had returned back and took more from his house. At last the thief - seeing how easy it was to rob the man the first and second time comes back the third time, and takes the rest. The father confronts the sons and says, “If only you would have listened to me the first time - the thief would never have come back” -

We could put a face to thief, but still :shrug:could it still tells us how we left ourselves so open? Again, be vigilant, and stay awake! Our Lord said this and so did Paul: (They meant it in the very strong of terms)

.Mark 13:25 “But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.”

while the righteous were asleep his enemy came and sowed. - “The tare abounds all over the East, and is a great nuisance to the farmer. It resembles the American “cheat (chess),” but the “head” does not droop like cheat, nor does it branch out like oats. The grain, also, is smaller, and is arranged along the upper part of the stalk, which stands perfectly erect. The “taste” is bitter, and when eaten separately, or even when diffused in ordinary bread, it causes dizziness, and often acts as a violent emetic. Barn-door fowls also become dizzy from eating it. In short, it is a strong soporific poison, and must be carefully winnowed, and picked out of the wheat grain by grain, before grinding, or the flour is not healthy. Even the farmers, who in this country generally “weed” their fields, do not attempt to separate the one from the other. They would not only mistake good grain for them, but very commonly the roots of the two are so intertwined that it is impossible to separate them without plucking up both. Both, therefore, must be left to “grow together” until the time of harvest.” - (Thomson) “The Land and the Book,” vol. ii. pp. 111, 112. Thus, “tares” aptly represented hypocrites in the church. Strongly resembling Christians in their experience, and, in some respects, their lives it is impossible to distinguish them from genuine Christians, nor can they be separated until it is done by the Great Searcher of hearts at the day of judgment. An enemy the devil hath done it. And nowhere has he shown profounder cunning, or done more to adulterate the purity of the gospel.-

Encouragement to be sober and vigilant in your Christian walk

Another response, among a growing number of New Catholic Action efforts, is offered by Catholic Advocate, The organization offers a parish based response here. St Gianna Physician’s Guild is sponsoring an online petition to help stop the mandate.

Cardinal - Designate Timothy Dolan, the President of the US Bishops Conference, released a video statement which can be viewed in its entirety here. The Web site of the United States Bishops Conference calls the faithful to take action, and gives an excellent summary of the issues involved in this egregious action. It also offers outside links to excellent summaries, opinion pieces, and supportive material.
This edict from Secretary Kathleen Sebelius came days after the unanimous decision of the US Supreme Court reaffirming the primacy of Religious Liberty and the freedom of Churches as protected by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. I wrote about this important decision in Hosanna-Tabor: U.S. Supreme Court Church-State Decision Protects the Church.
***The edict from the Secretary of Health and Human Services came just one day after the prophetic Pope Benedict XVI addressed one group of US Bishops during their ad limina visit, warning them of the growth of radical secularism in the United States and the accompanying threats to the fundamental Right to Religious Freedom. I’m confident the chain of events now set in motion by the Church and Pro-Life movement cannot be stopped. In fact they will only grow. Change can only come by first understanding evil, then refusing to accept evil. For once you accept evil, you are then cooperating with it. and at this point, you are then, as we see… PROMOTING it!

Obama, Pelosi and Sebelius are appauling examples of this, and in the name of Christianity which is most disturbing. However, not uncommon in American History or Civil Rights.

If the abomination of slavery could not stop us, the opposition we now face will surely fail, for the ulitimate goal of America is Freedom, and in the end, Truth, Life and Love will have the final say…and that is Gods Will. Which Bellarmine and Jefferson obviously agreed upon.

If fact there is no such thing as Seperation of Church and State correctly understood. It does not appear in the US Constitution and in fact was presented by Thomas Jefferson to “PROTECT” the church from the Government. And the phrase was coined in a conversation with the Baptist Church by letter. And the same President we are so quick to quote, held Mass as the White House “every” weekend he was in Washington.

And to that I say…AMEN!

Only Catholics complain when something that goes against everything they stand for is attacked. But few support outside the Church support it when its beliefs are attacked and even support those attacks. Proof of this is seen in that manipulative bastard they call Jessica Ahlqust. Apparently, having a prayer banner in school is discriminatory against atheists yet removing said banner isn’t discriminatory against Catholics. Look honey, America wasn’t made for atheists, it was made for EVERYBODY; it was made so that every flipping person can could do and express what they want as long as they don’t harm anyone.

And yet what good did you do by that idiotic action of yours? You’re regarded as brave and good yet there are teens who do more good than you when they actually give to charity, save babies from being aborted and instead of being regarded as brave for standing up against common opinions, they’re regarded as idiots and kicked out of their schools. True, the language of those Christians is deplorable but unlike you, we will not call them false Christians, just Christians who need help in their faith. Becuase they said something out of a bout of anger doesn’t mean they’re angry and murderous; We can all forgive, but you didn’t forgive them did you? Instead, you post their comments online just to show how ‘evil’ Christians really are because you yourself are such a charitable, honest saint. So much for critisizing us for judging when you do the same exact things:shrug:.

Nobody bats an eye when an angry teen threatens to insults another because we all know they’re just whining. Incidentally, and not all of those Christians insulted you: instead, they made T-shirts supporting the banner, a cause worthier than wasting the school’s money on the pointless court case and STILL they are looked with contempt by your fanatical supporters. As Francis de Sales said, for the children of the world, if we say something out of a bout of anger they’ll declare we are insupportable but if they are angry, then it is generosity. Spiders always spoil the work of the bees.
