I’ve used similar sites to Freecycle both for getting rid of items and also getting them, and they really are good. In some cases, I was able to get some nearly-new or good condition stuff, including a small guitar amp and a large mahogany bookcase. Children’s items are seemingly always welcome, given how expensive they can be.You might consider joining freecycle.org if the things you’re throwing away would be of interest or usable to others! That’s what I’ve done as i get ready for the baby and throw things out. You’d be surprised at how the most random thing can be attractive to someone…just be safe and careful about giving out your info.
It’s also worth considering if you know any neighbours or people near to you who need anything. I remember how when I was a child, my Moses basket was from a neighbour with an older baby, my cot was a family friend’s old one.
