Our daughter is due to be born in May (C-Section so we have a good idea). We are very devotional to Mary and know May is the month dedicated to Mary. We have four children but are nearing our 40’s so we are thinking this might be our last. Our four children are an oldest girl, and three boys. This newest child is a girl (we know for sure, it’s very clear on the ultrasound).

We would very much like to dedicate our child to the care of Mary after her baptism in May. We have heard somewhere (we can’t remember where) that this was not a horribly rare thing in the past (not sure when, we’re just sure we’ve heard it somewhere before). Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone know what it would entail? We are pretty sure it is just the priest holding the baby and saying something like he wants to dedicate her to the care of Mary and some simple remarks. We are a little nervous about even asking though in case we sound crazy, so as weird as it sounds, we thought we would ask about it here first under the guise of anonymity.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

You can consecrate your daughter to Mary (well, to Jesus, through Mary). People do things like that all the time. Another common one is to consecrate a new baby or even an entire family to the Holy Family (Jesus, Mary, Joseph).

Thankyou so much. I wondered why I couldn’t find anything on it when doing a google search - It was because I was calling it a “dedication”. When I called it “Consecration” I got a ton of stuff. Thanks,

I don’t know about consecrating a child; perhaps someone else will post here (and it looks like a couple already have) giving you advice on this. Here’s a thought: have you considered naming your girl Mary? I don’t want to get involved in naming your children, but just a thought that came to mind.

I’ll say a Hail Mary for a healthy and save delivery. God Bless.

Would you mind pointing me to this consecration of one’s family to the Holy family? I’d really like to to do something like this very much.
