Lately, almost every time, and it happened again at Church tonight, after I’ve received Communion, return, and kneel, I always kneel there, my eyes shut, just thinking on what I’ve just received. I don’t say a prayer (I’m considering looking for a short one, though, that I can memorize) but I suppose you could say I contemplate. I keep my eyes shut for several seconds after I’ve returned to my place, and think of Jesus, and picture Him in my mind. Tonight, and other times lately, I find I’m shaking slightly, and my heart is beating quickly inside of me. Then, after moments, this goes away. Has anyone else had this happen?

I’m a fallen Catholic, so communion is a far away and distant thing of the past. But i’d say around 10 years ago I went to Christmas mass. I remained seated when it was time to receive communion and was people watching. Then I saw a young woman probably in her early 20s, pregnant, and in all my years of going to church, I had never seen someone more beautiful after communion. I think something holy happened. She had her eyes closed and was deeply reflexive. It touched me. i can’t help to think her baby must have been touched by grace that night.

Yes, a lot. Same feelings, but shaking a lot, in the way that if I held my hands out they would visibly tremble. My heart is beating really fast, like ready to pop out of my chest, fast!!! Affter receiving, I feel short of breath and like I could begin convulsing. (I never have! Praise God! 🙂 ) In these moments, my feelings are a mix of elation, gratitude for His great sacrifice, sorrow for his immense suffering, and intense peace. I am often close to tears and have actually cried on occasion. I experience a lot of joy by watching others receive too and I ask God to bless those gathered before Him. If I see someone who is suffering/has suffered, I suffer with them in that moment as though it was my burden.
The outside world ceases to exist and I have died and gone to heaven and the communion of saints becomes everyone who has gathered at church to celebrate/partake in the Eucharist. This has been happening only for the last year or so.
When serving as a Eucharistic Minister, I take a deep breath and try to calm myself, though the same feelings come up. It helps if I don’t look at the crucifix too much when I’m up at the alter, although, sometimes, I can’t help it. When seated the crucifix appears more as a picture, than as a 3 dimensional person of Christ on the cross.
I am truly blessed to partake in this celebration of eternal life and the oeace and joy of Christ every day! 🙂

If I close my eyes in a Church, everything changes and time stops… I do not do it very often any more. Drifting to a place … may not get back! And it is not time for that yet… :heaven:

Rosebud77 – You should never be afraid of contemplation. It’s normal, it’s natural. And if God has given you a gift for it, He gave it to you so that you could use it.

You don’t have to worry about not being able to come back.

And, St. John of the Cross, Doctor of the Church on prayer reminds us that such good feelings are the Lord drawing us closer to Him. He is so good!

In time, the Lord desires us to act on faith without feelings. He will give the feelings when He deems it is needed,…and we must continue to love with our wills and act on faith without the good feelings.

We can grow spiritually when we become unattached to the good feelings and do not seek them.

We need to seek the God of consolations, not the consolations of God. I am aware that sounds harsh, but it is for our own good.

Jesus is our Good Shepherd!

Ah no, not fear,It is His way of assuring me that when the time comes I am safe…is the same here every night when I turn the light off… deep deep prayer where I feel safe. Years ago one of the Poor Clares at Faughart told me I have moved beyond vocal prayer into prayer of the heart, which was a relief to know

I have very little physical stamina when I am away from home and do not trust myself or others. Hard to explain but He knows…

There are Holy Places here when if I am alone I can pray like that. Love winter here because of that…

Blessings and thanks

Beg to disagree; He gives, not us. He chooses when. not us. Always there when we need Him…our need, His gift. But then that kind of prayer is NOT “feelings”. It is an awareness , a different consciousness, Not emotion, spiritual…

No, I did not say that we choose when He gives to us. The Lord does as He sees fit.

We can grow in detachment and then there is more room for Him.

How do you disagree?

Happens to me often.

However, begin to stop creating a picture of Jesus, for this is your own creation.

Instead, just be in the presence of Jesus and let Him reveal Himself as He is, not as you imagine He is.

But yes, you are in contemplation as you state.

I can’t help it. I will always “picture” Him in my mind. Actually, I picture how we’ve seen Him. The Shroud of Turin, and a long-haired man in robes. I want to picture Him, and I think that is how He really is. Thankyou for your thought though;)
I’ve enjoyed reading all of your thoughts:)

That is fine, and Jesus is in control of this as you know so well… rest in all of it… and thank you for this thread that has affirmed me and many others. You will never know how much! BLESS YOU!
