Journalists are forever asserting that something “stands at a crossroads,” and, truth to be told, often it’s just a rhetorical device to lend drama to whatever follows. Chronic overuse of the image, however, doesn’t mean there are no real crossroads, and today one can make a very good case that Jewish/Catholic relations are fast arriving at one.

Given the revolutionary impact of Pope John Paul II, his death would have been sufficient all by itself to generate a sense of transition. Deeper forces, however, are also at work.

The ADL is like any organization along those lines. All “cause” organizations are prone to it. They can start to take on a life of their own and can see problems everywhere.

interesting article…of particular interest to me was the parallel drawn between the Catholic Identity Movement and Jewish efforts to preserve their faith and identity by “building a fence around The Law” (a practice I had heard of before in Christian Sermons) and how this provides an opportunity for understanding between Catholics and Jews. We each claim an exlusive faith so tensions will always exist but I believe our Lord’s command to love our enemies and pray for our persecutors (as we heard in today’s Gosple from Luke) obligates us to deal with our conflicts with love and forgiveness…a tall order I know.

Keep the Faith
