Defend a spouse

Depends on the crime. Something like rape, sexual crime, murder of a child etc. I think I’d be straight to the police. But I’m not going to grass up my wife for something like embezzling money or smoking weed. For the former I may have to confront her on the matter. If I found she’d killed a burglar and buried his body in the back yard, I think I’d defend her in that case.

There’s not really one answer for all crimes. It depends on context and severity etc.

Isn’t this part of the problem with the priests scandals?

No. No one here is saying that they would protect a spouse if they molested children, or moved them around to other families. If I was caught in a crime, I may indeed lie to the police in a move of self preservation. It doesnt make it less sinful. I just is something that people would probably do. Including most on these boards. I probably would extend the same amount of protection to my spouse.
