Defending God's Mercy

I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question.

I need to understand and defend the character of God’s mercy to someone who believes God is only vengeful.

Book recommendations, other than the bible, would be helpful.

I have read The Diary of Saint Faustina and it was a great help. Are there any other texts like that one?

The autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux (Story of a Soul) would be another very helpful book.

Reading the life of Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity would be a good corrective for one who thinks of God as only vengeful.
