Hello everyone!

How do I respond to this?
One of my friends said that the Church’s belief on marriage is “unfair” because if gay people cannot get married, we are “condemning” them into staying single and to never having a “relationship.”
Also, how can I explain to them what love really is, and that it is not about dating, signing a paper (how they described marriage), sex, and then a divorce when they don’t feel “in love” anymore.

Thank you!

I would say that we need to hold off on any accusations of “unfair” until it is known whether or not the homosexual act is morally allowed. If not, then the “unfair” accusation is silly.

Theology of the body is highly recommended for such things.

It never does much good for people like your friend, but you could quietly point out that life isn’t fair, and that everyone has a cross to bear, unfortunately for homosexuals, it is a very heavy cross, but no more heavy than what priests, monks and nuns, among other groups, have handled with dignity and grace throughout the centuries.

You could also point out that, despite what culture wants us to believe, sex is not necessary to live.

I think it’s sometimes helpful to ask people who defend gay “marriage” to explain what marriage is. In my experience, they almost always define it as two people in love and committed, or something similar. But why only two? That’s clutch. The reason is, of course, that male and female bodies are complementary, and natural law and reason demonstrates that exactly two people, one male and one female, are necessary for procreation as part of the marital act. But if we remove that aspect and claim it’s not necessary, then really, why not allow three or four people to marry, as long as they really love each other?

If anyone chooses to have sexual relationships outside of marriage, then they will be held accountable by God for engaging in immoral relationships (no matter how they “feel”). However, no one has a right to define marriage, which is between one man and one woman. Marriage is never just for the couple.

This interview of San Francisco’s Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone should be helpful to you:

Gya people do not need to receive the sacrament of matrimony they can have there relationship but why do they feel the need to marry? and why in the catholic church?, funny that the devil tried to undermine marriage before his gay scheme by calling it out of date, old fashioned, and just a sheet of paper, now he tries to infiltrate in a different way.

Was God “unfair” to humans because we can’t fly?

Was God “unfair” to me because I can’t give birth?
