Hello Everyone,

For years, I have been battling the immoral/irreligious comments that appear under articles on Yahoo News! And It seems that lately there are so many articles which draw derision and hateful attacks against anyone who opposes the Culture of Death, that I find myself in there trying to charitably debate some of those posting, I feel it’s my duty as a devout Catholic and know that I have made people think.

Just this week, I posted that Jesus Christ would be victorious in the end, and my message got so many thumbs down that it became a “hidden” message right away. And I wish there were more of us in there, not only defending the Truth, but trying to bring people to our Lord, Jesus Christ. At times when the Christian presence is strong and charitable, I feel we are truly doing God’s work and supporting each other.

Have others here visited Yahoo News and noticed the bent away from God? What has been your experience? I also wonder if any others might be interested in checking it out. We must evangelize and this might seem trivial, but souls are involved; souls that are precious to God.

God bless you and I look forward to being a positive presence here.

Sean

I like your attitude and wish you success. I will check it out and try my best to help, God willing…

Honestly, when on sites like Yahoo I avoid saying things like that. If I don’t have to mention religion, I don’t. If I do, it’s to defend it, not make statements like that.

I don’t think telling people Jesus will be victorious in the end will have any effect on people who call him a magical sky fairy. But I just try to reach them where they’re at, and talk about the history and logic behind beliefs.

I don’t think making statements out of nowhere, especially on a board full of hostility, has any effect. I could be wrong, maybe it does bring glory to God, but I usually find it just keeps people from taking arguments seriously.

Yahoo groups are the lowest of the low. You may as well also browse /b/ on 4chan.

It’s basically a sewer.

Christianus_Dei, Thank you for the reminder. I have to not get frustrated and continue to exercise charity even when frustrated.

I pretty much have the same opinion for YouTube and most (if not all) online forums for pop culture.

My advice to the OP? Stop wasting your time.

I wonder if God would say he’s wasting his time. What you see as a waste of time, the op sees as an opportunity. Whether the hearers actually hear is not for the op to determine, it is his calling to be faithful in an arena of hostility. Isn’t that what the apostles did? The op will not be stoned or thrown into jail or tossed to the lions for a few words on the internet about Christianity. There might be a day where he will if we continue in silence.

Remember op that some helpers have moved on to other things because of family commitments or whatever, but others will come in to the task. Thank you for taking this on. May God give you strong strategies in the arena, and increase your faith because of your willingness to try. God can use those who are willing to try. Thank you for reminding me of this truth.
You are the salt of the earth. But what if salt goes flat? How can you restore its flavor? Then it is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden,. Men do not light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket. They set it on a stand where it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine before men so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father. Matt 5:13-16

There’s evangelization and then there’s casting pearls before swine. I’ve participated in Yahoo! and other similar boards myself. Not to discourage this guy, but he might as well start his own blog and be a professional online influence.

I work in online marketing. Influence and swaying people’s opinions is part of my job. Believe me, the best you can get in commenting is a backlink to your own site. Making a case but then just spending all that time arguing (and on just one section of the internet I might add) is a poor investment.

Do you see the likes of Scott Hahn or any of the other CAF apologists spending that much time? They don’t because they know all the tricks of online influence.

Long story short: If you’re going to fight in an arena, learn to arm yourself and don’t stick to a corner of it.

What Scott Hahn and other apologists are doing is irrelevant to the op.
We are called to be faithful and God grants the success, not us. To me that is so freeing that I can speak the truth and I won’t have to answer for other peoples’ bad choices.

What God sees is someone who is making themselves available to work in the kingdom of God. God can use that. We don’t know what God will have him doing one year from now or a decade from now.

This is more about God and the op and their working relationship, not what impact he may or may not have, since only God knows.

Mother Angelica of EWTN didn’t build her network in a day or a year. It began as a little girl and her saying Yes to God. God is looking for people who will say yes. Step by step mountains get moved. This is a lifetime project, a marathon, not a sprint. You are looking at the sprint.

I thank all of you for your opinions, pro and con. It seems that when I see an inflammatory headline, I’m propelled to click on it and try to reach people. I will never forget the one time somebody wrote to tell me (I don’t exactly remember, but…) that what I had written had made much sense to him/her and that they would always remember it. And since my posts direct people to God and morality, through Jesus Christ, my heart jumped for joy at having touched that one soul.

However, I also see the point behind growing and establishing some other sort of site for my evangelization. I don’t think I will ever completely stop addressing offensive and blasphemous posts, but I believe I am on my way somewhere else and that’s why God brought me here. This is my next step. I have sinned much in my life – dangling over the abyss for the majority of twenty-five years – and without being graphic, I feel I can help a lot of people.

Catholics shouldn’t keep their faith in a cave; they should talk about it in the Public Square. We shouldn’t bury our heads in the sand.

If someone else offends the Trinity or Mary, we should try and defend our Catholic Faith as best as we can and if we feel the calling to do so.

Some of the most recent Popes have encouraged Catholics to use the internet as a means of supporting the Catholic Faith. Pope Francis said he wants the Catholic Church “in the streets”.

You should visit Pope Francis’s Twitter; all sorts of people post offensive statements about Catholicism there; it doesn’t stop him from posting tweets.

You might disagree with the OP etc., but I think it’s a worthwhile endeavor if that is the way the Holy Spirit is still calling him to do this or perhaps to now pursue another different path.

Keep up the good work, persist even though it may seem futile from all the feedback you will get, I am inspired by you and people like you who aren’t afraid to reach out into the sewers. There’s nothing to loose and everything to gain for the kingdom surely?

But that’s exactly my point. Why waste time putting your soapbox in an online comments section? You speak of taking steps but you can’t take a step when you’re just going to spend all your time stuck in one place. 😉

YT is not so bad, as there are quite a few neutral and pro-religious people. And sometimes the pro comments really outnumber the negatives by orders of magnitude.
