Is it okay to ask others to pray for you when you are being attacked spiritually? I’ve heard that when one prays for another who is under attack by evil, the person praying for them opens themself up to spiritual attack.

I personally had such an experience and was therefore reluctant to ask for the prayers of others. I also have known people that I’m pretty convinced were under spiritual attack or living with the influence of evil, and wanted to pray for them, but wasn’t sure if I’d be opening myself up to that kind of attack. I’ve read that only priests can pray for deliverance of someone.

We shold not be afraid to pray for those who seek help If we do, then Satan succeeds in overcoming those individuals by use of fear, and suppressing our faith. As Christians, we cannot give into this. Rest assurred, and have faith, that Love bears all things and endures all things, and that Christ and all the Holy Ones will come to your aid, especially in spiritual warfare. I will personally pray with you and for you. Know that you are not alone.

Isaiah 41:10
Psalm 3:4-7
Proverbs 3:5-6
Ephesians 6:10-17

News to me. I will pray to Archangel Michael to surround both of us with his army of light. You can help by also reciting the prayer to St Michael the archangel.

A Prayer to Saint Michael

Saint Michael, Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

This is a good prayer…

“Dear Lord Jesus, please surround me (family/friends/or the particular person that you are praying for) with a perimeter of Your Love and Protection throughout the day today and everyday a hundred yards in all directions. Lord Jesus, render any demons that are there, or should try to come, deaf, dumb, and blind. Strip them of all weapons, illusions, armor, power, and authority. Disable them from communicating or interacting in any way. Bind, sever, and separate them, sending them directly to the foot of Your Cross without manifestation or harm to be dealt with by you Jesus. May Your Precious Blood cover me, the Holy Spirit fill me, Mary’s mantle of love and protection surround me, St. Joseph guide me, the Holy Angels and Saints guard and protect me from all unfortunate events. Protect me from fire, theft, flood, storms, ailments, and accidents of every sort, distress, hardship, curse, and all untoward things. I ask all this in your Name Lord Jesus and I thank and praise you. I love you. Alleluia. Amen!”

Thank you all so much, you are courageous and kind souls!

Yes, I prayed to St. Michael the Archangel, and Our Lady and my angel. I also prayed to St. Pio, because he was tormented by the devil. The Cure of Ars would be a good one to ask for assistance, too. I said several prayers of supplication, and then a prayer for deliverance.

Maybe what I was thinking of was the prayer for deliverance. I have a book, “Deliver Us From Evil”, by Fr. Basil Nortz, ORC. I have to confess to not having read it completely, but have read the prayers section fully. At the end of the book is a section called “Prayers of Command”, that begins with this warning:

*It is important to note that the prayers in this section are for private and personal use only. Prayers of command are not to be said publicly nor for the liberation of someone other than oneself, nor for cases of local infestation. In these cases it is necessary to seek the assistance of a priest who has permission from his local ordinary to perform sometype of exorcism prayer. No one has the authority to command the devil to depart from another person or from a public place or some other object unless they officially receive such authority from the Church. Such authroity is only given to ordained priests.

It is recommended to pray a prayer of supplication prior to praying a prayer of command for the sake of petitioning special assistance from God, and Mary and the angels and saints.

*The prayers that follow include: Invocation Against The Evil One, Prayer in Time of Temptation, Private Prayers for Deliverance and Prayer Following Deliverance.
Incidentally, I found a beautiful prayer in the “Prayers of Supplication” section called “The Chaplet of Our Lady of Tears”. So beautiful! One particularly beautiful part is a verse/response repeated seven times:

V: Oh Jesus! Behold the tears of the one who loved You most on earth,
R: And who loves You most ardently in heaven.

As a mother myself, that part is particularly moving to me. Anyway, thank you all!

Prayer, the sacramentals and the sacraments. Don’t let the enemy have any ammo. During attacks , the 23rd psalm and the Our Father are good things to remember as well as prayers for Mary and St. Michael’s interventions. A daily rosary helps embed prayers in your subconscious if your having problems with nightmares. I hope this helps. You have my prayers , Tim

You know, what makes the experience baffling is that I have made all those things an important part of daily life. Most days I say the rosary at least twice, plus the chaplet of Divine Mercy, plus the all-day sort of running prayer dialogue with God, and the evening prayers. I envoke St. Michael several times a day. This sort of ‘attack’ is not something I give much thought or attention, so it caught me by surprise. I use holy water often, and my home is sprinkled with it and blessed salt. It only ever happened once before, and it was much briefer, and that was almost a year ago. I don’t get it. In any case, I am taking all the advice to heart and following it, and adding to my usual prayers and invocations.

Thanks so much for the prayers and support. 🙂

Demons cannot hear your silent paryers or read your mind. So don’t worry, just pray silently.

Mummybee, you are right in a way. When we intercede for someone, we *do *volunteer to help them carry part of their cross. That’s why prayer is so wonderful, because we can do so much good with so little effort or pain.

But sometimes we are sent trials that are specific intercessions for someone. Have you ever had a day where bad things were happening to you, but you could see that your day was blessed through these trials? Maybe your car broke down, but it broke down in a great location and didn’t cost that much to repair, although if the problem hadn’t been seen to right away, it would have cost a lot more down the road. Or something that happened to me recently is that I chipped a molar while eating soft soup (such a freak accident!). Because of the chip, I saw the dentist and discovered I had an infection in that tooth and needed a root canal. The cost was $1000, the exact amount of a surprise gift we received a couple of weeks earlier. It was obvious to me that through my trial, God was helping me. God allows these things, but He keeps us tightly under his wing while we help His other little ones with their burdens.

So yes, by praying for someone under spiritual attack, we might be spritually attacked in return. But it’s not because the devil decides this, it’s because God allows it. And He’s not going to allow it to a degree greater than what we can handle. And sometimes it won’t even happen at all.

And I also love the Chaplet of Our Lady of Tears (AKA Chaplet of the Tears of Blood) 👍

I personally don’t have experience in praying for someone under the influence of evil – but I have for those of the dead.
I think that whenever I do that – I really get a lot of temptations, and sometimes this causes me to sin.
I suggest that if you yourself have any kind of addictions or weak spots – then don’t do this. On the contrary if you have dedicated yourself to Our Lady I guess she would take care of it.

You should pray in a way that spiritually strengthens.

I have heard that if you rollup tin foil into a aluminum John Gotti the spirits will attack that giving you time flee to the hills.

Im not a christian or catholic even though i have walked both paths before and have no religion now. I don’t usually attribute things to 'spiritual attacks" because i believe those are a rarity not to say it doesnt happen but you can’t just attribute every little bad thing that comes your way as an attack because thats just being paranoid nor is it practical. Im embarrassed to be here and even more so to write this but i think i might have been attacked tonight and i think it was a wake up call to get my act together. I have a hard time sleeping and didn’t asleep until almost two this morning only to wake up at four in the morning for no reason. The tv was on which it usually but even then i swear i heard a deep voice talking to me taunting me. I tried to ignore it and said its just the tv and the voice laughed and said like i knew you say that. I got scared and yes in my weak moment i cried to a God i turned away from for help but as i prayed the voice kept telling me to shut up and was basically trying to tell me it was useless but i kept praying. It is almost seven in the morning and im tired and spent but i feel i need some help and answers and i just don’t know who to trust or turn to.

Start praying the rosary as the Blessed Virgin Mary is the most powerful protection against the enemy that you can have. In Genesis, Catholics believe that Mary is the woman that God speaks about he crushes the devil with her foot. In Revelation, Catholics believe that Mary is the woman whose children are at war with the evil one.

Start wearing a blessed medal of St. Benedict (patron saint of exorcism), the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the cross of Jesus Christ.

The 15 Promises for those who recite the Rosary

The following are the 15 promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:
(given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan)
  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the rosary, shall receive signal graces.
    2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the rosary.
    3. The rosary will be a powerful armor against hell. It will destroy vice, decrease sin and defeat heresies.
  2. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
    **
  3. Those who recommend themselves to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.**
    6. Whoever shall recite the rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
    7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
    8. Those who are faithful to recite the rosary shall have during their life and at their death, the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.
  4. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the rosary.
  5. The faithful children of the rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.
    11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary.
    12. All those who propagate the holy rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
    **
  6. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.**
  7. All who recite the rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only son, Jesus Christ.
  8. Devotion to my rosary is a great sign of predestination.
The devotion to the Medal of St. Benedict is old; but it would not be possible to know precisely when it started. An event reported in the life of Pope Leo IX, who was pope from 1048 to 1054, evidences its antiquity. THis pope was born in 1002 and was called Brunone; as a child he was taken care of by Bertoldo, bishop of Toul.
On paying a visit to his parents to Eginiskeim Castel, while he was sleeping, a poisonous frog trode on his face and bit him dreadfully. To the cries of the child came his parents. After two months’ terrible pains, once lost his voice, the child fully aware, saw a lighted stair which, from the sick-bed went out of the window and touched the sky. A venerable old man was going down the stair, holding in his left hand a long staff on which the Cross of Christ was engraved. Once he reached the sick, the venerable old man touched Brunone with the Coss. THen, the young man understood that the old man was the Patriarch St. Benedict. Suddenly, from a sore close to the ear, the poison went out, and a few days later, once the sore healed, Brunone recovered completely. In mid-1600s, in Bavaria, the abbey of Metten became the centre of devotion to the Cross of St. Benedict, and from Germany the habit of wearing the Medal of St. Benedict, as a secure defense against the tricks of satan, started to spread throughout the Catholic world.
On the Breve dated 12th March 1742, opening with the words Coelestibus Ecclesiae Thesauris, Pope Benedict XIV approved the devotion to the Medal and Cross of St. Benedict.

*Hail May full of grace the Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou among women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. *

Prayer
Filial trust in St. Benedict:
Oh, Holy Blessed father, aid to those who beseech you: take me in your protection; defend me from all temptations in my life; have the mercy of heart compuction and of the true conversion on me, to make amends for all sins committed, to praise and glorify God all my life long. Man after God’s heart, remember me in front of the Almighty, once forgiven for my sins, for he makes me firm in Good, he does not allow me to depart from Him, he welcomes me in the choir of the elect, together with you, and the Saints who followed you in eternal Blessing.
O Mighty and eternal God, for the merits and example of St. Benedict, of the daughter, the Virgin Scolastica, and of all the holy monks restore in me your Holy Spirit; give me the strength in the fight against the temptations of evil, patience in life’s tribulations, prudence in dangers. Increase in me the love for chastity, the longing for poverty, eagerness for obedience, the humble faith in the compliance with Christian life.
Comforted by you and backed up by the charity of the brothers, may I serve you happily and reach, as a winner, the heavenly home together with all Saints.
For Christ our Lord.

Dear Mummybee,
Is it okay to ask others to pray for you when you are being attacked spiritually?
Of course it’s okay! This is one of those times when we most need the prayers of others.
I’ve heard that when one prays for another who is under attack by evil, the person praying for them opens themself up to spiritual attack.
We can be on the receiving end of a spiritual attack anytime we get on the devil’s radar - and that can happen when we experience a conversion, are working to persevere in living the Christ life, are praying for others or working to help them grow spiritually. That doesn’t mean we stop doing those things - which is exactly what the demons want us to do: to give up.

Remember that *“in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28). *

Demons are like chained dogs who can do nothing to us unless God permits it - for our own good! Perhaps in allowing an attack He is teaching us perseverance, trust, or any number of virtues. Since God’s ways are so far above our ways, we really can’t pick His mind anymore than we can pick a star from the sky. What’s important is to remember that all things, not just some things, work for our good, and it is our job to leave the hows and the whys to God and to do our part by living as the Church teaches us to live.
I’ve read that only priests can pray for deliverance of someone.
If you read An Exorcist: More Stories by Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the exorcist of Rome, he writes extensively about prayers of deliverance, which the laity may say. What the laity should not be doing is attempting to administer a solemn exorcism, or addressing, questioning, or commanding demons directly. Deprecatory language should be used as opposed to imprecatory language in deliverance prayers. (See guideline #5 here).

This topic is covered in more detail on the St. Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling, a site you may find helpful. You’ll also find a link to the prayer page, which contains a number of spiritual warfare prayers.
