This is quite childish, nevertheless it is disturbing.
We are traveling on budget. So to save up, we don’t buy toilet papers, instead we roll off some papers on public toilets as we go along the road.
Would that still be stealing?

Do you take the whole roll of toilet paper? Do you ask if you can take some? Couldn’t you bring any? There are a lot of specifics that need to be defined to answer accordingly.

seems like stealing to me if you’re taking something which is provided for a particular use but rather than using it for that purpose you take it for later use somewhere else.

No, I don’t take the whole roll, just a few roll off. A meter probably.

I consider it stealing. Toilet paper is provided to be used at that time and place.

Did you tell anyone at the public restrooms you took some toilet paper? Either way, it, to me, is stealing, however minor, and it is best to confess to your priest at your next confession.

It’s stealing. You may be traveling on a budget but people like yourself drive up prices in places where people take toiilet paper home and use it other than for its intended purpose at that time and place and we all pay for it as price includes the cost of doing business and yes
toilet paper is a cost.

It’s stealing. They put toilette paper out there for you to use then while you go to the bathroom, not to take a bunch with you for later use so you can save money. If you are on such a budget you can’t afford toilette paper, chances are you can’t afford to travel at the moment.

If the cost of toilet paper is passed on to the consumer, then I for one, forgive you. Take as much as you need if you can’t afford it.

In my humble opinion, if someone is traveling on such a tight budget that they can’t afford to buy a roll of toilet paper maybe they shouldn’t be traveling at all.

My sentiments exactly. I don’t know how one could afford to travel if one has to save money on the cost of toilet paper by stealing it.; thus my post. If that was someone in my family I would much rather they tell me they are too poor to buy toilet paper and I would gladly
purchase for them their needs of such for their entire trip so they don’t need to “scrimp and save” on that particular expense. Maybe cut costs on a snow cone or something

He just wants a few meters of toilet paper. He didn’t say why he was traveling.

This is true. A person may be traveling due to a family emergency, not just for vacation.

I guess what I am curious about is why a person would need to take TP. Are you expected to provide your own where you are staying? I know if you are renting a vacation house, etc. it is expected, but in hotels or similar accommodations TP is usually provided. If you are staying with family, they will have TP at their homes. Was bringing some from home not an option? (When my DH and I went on our honeymoon, we stayed at a beach house and had to provide all of our own toiletries - we brought TP, tissues, paper towels, etc. with us since they were more expensive at the stores near where we were staying).

If you are vacationing on a budget, truthfully, TP is one of the lowest expenses. If you have to spend so little money that a few dollars on TP is unreasonable, then I agree with previous posters who have suggested that it is not wise for you to be going on vacation. If you are travelling for other reasons, I find it hard to imagine a scenario in which you “need” to steal TP - why not bring it from home?

Its a public restroom and its public toilet paper. True its intended for use at the restroom but people use as much as they want. The can blow their nose with it. If they decide to take a wad of it to their car you will never see a police officer detain them. I honestly would not think of you as a thief for taking a little bit of the TP because you need some during a rough patch. I wouldn’t call a mother a thief if she took some extra TP to the car because she wanted some for her infant baby. You sound conscientious enough about it. It might be a little different if you were taking entire rolls of toilet paper so you never had to buy any.

If you are that tight on money then go ahead and take some public TP. i think America can afford the 1 trillionth of a penny some of these posters are worried about.

The OP stated it’s childish and disturbing.

If it’s disturbing someone…then why?
Perhaps that is the question to ask the OP.
Why is it disturbing to you?

My thoughts exactly: I cannot imagine a scenario in which you cannot spare $1.00 for a roll of cheap TP.

It’s stealing.

Have you considered asking the proprietor if he has a spare roll or perhaps the end of a roll to donate to you?

Just because a business makes restrooms available to their customers, doesn’t give the customers the right to help themselves to more than their fair share. Someone is paying for it.

I would say yes, it is stealing. If you can’t afford TP, then you can’t afford vacation. Vacation is a luxury that you have to save up for. If you are having to steal TP, then you haven’t saved up enough. You either need to cut other costs, save more before trips, or just not travel. I know my hubby and I save up all year so we can afford to go and visit family once a year. We have been married 4 years and still haven’t been able to take a honeymoon because we realize that we can’t participate in that luxury without giving up our yearly trip to see family.
