Out of the closet? Lust? These are things you introduced.

All classes of people make use of the wide variety of relationships available today which are called marriage. The elite have certainly not limited such access to only the elite.

In our society, anyone of legal age and competence can marry almost anyone they want for whatever reason they want for whatever duration they want. It’s all called marriage.
No, you and the elite have done this. What was done by the courts were civil unions. Now a civil union is not a marriage but a marriage can be a civil union. The Webster dictionary confuse these terms saying they are equal, they are not. You can refer to a marriage as a civil union, but can not refer to a civil union as a marriage. This was done by Webster.

Technically speaking, yes. Every spoken (and non spoken) word has an infinite number of meanings depending on the experience and how the word is defined to that person.
That is not going to make some people happy.

Civil unions are a great first step in clearing up the confusion. A civil union describes a set of relationships in one state. The interesting thing is that those same relationships are called marriage in the next state.

What is the difference between a civil union in Vermont and a civil marriage in Illinois? More interesting, what is the difference between a civil union in Vermont and a civil marriage in Vermont?

If a civil union cannot be called a marriage, then by allowing same sex civil unions and we are not allowing same sex marriage.

This is why I think the catholic church should abandon the term Marriage.
This would prevent the concepts of civil marriage contracts to be mixed with the catholic sacrament of a holy matrimony
Wouldn’t it be great to say to someone, “No I am not married” I am “somthing else”
who cares about what the secularism defines marriage to be? I can get one of those from elvis drive throughs.
We should stay true to the christian concept that church and state should remain separate.
Christ knew full well that when we blur the lines (or let others blur them ) we run the risk of being traped.
You may have a point - maybe we could say that we are “sacramentally married”? Any other ideas for what the CC could call marriage?

Probably. But it is true if you think about it.
This is not communication then is it. I thought communication was to solve problem not create them.

True, but most every solution to a problem creates other problems. Quantum mechanics, game theory, mutation and natural selection…

Such descriptions would be very helpful. They would foster much better communication, and a variety of names would point out the wide variety of relationships that exist.

This may work, if court officers perform civil unions only and the clergy marital unions only. I think you know what I mean.

The debate is happening in North America, but I don’t have much hope for the debate in Europe. Even if we in North America win this battle, we are not the only English speaking countries in the world. Webster’s definition will still be valid inasmuch as the EU is and will continue promoting varieties of “marriage”. I am surprised we are at this point.

There could be any number of civil unions, the one I was think of was a medical civil union which would allow the individual named to make medical decisions for someone.
