In the context of this forum, a traditionalist Catholic is one who prefers the Tridentine Mass and the practices of the Church before 1963.

They look down on other Catholics who don’t share their views, label as a ‘modernist’ any Catholic who prefers to attend the Ordinary Form of the Mass, and generally feel that they are the keepers of the faith.

Traditionalist Catholics generally believe that one can not say one is conservative or has “orthodox” beliefs and not be a traditionalist. One is either a traditionalist or a modernist liberal who is responsible for the demise of the Church.
I believe this forum is more open toward the reality. I myself used to make strict difference between the preference of tradition and being ‘ist’ absolutize it. The above described opinion is usually closed, deleted, banned here.

Pope Benedict XVI reminds us that we should not view “traditional” and “progressive” as opposites. The church must act differently to different cultures and times in the world. but church laws and divine laws are still the priority.
Thesis + Antithesis = Hegelianism

What do you mean with your comment? Would you please elaborate. I am assuming that you are not talking about tradition and progress because progress is not the antithesis of tradition. The goal of tradition is the progress toward salvation.

Sorry, I should have explained the point more. It is misleading. I have seen two parishes now that drifted away from the proper form of the mass and injected a lot of improper content. I sometimes blame this on that ever present “creative liturgist.”

One symptom that was common was an unbalanced focus on social justice. This transferred in both cases to service projects that reminded me of pep rallys at high school - only in the church right after mass. In one case it was during the homily (very inappropriate).

In any case that is the idea. Parishes that were wrecked by post Vatican II rebellion against the church exhibit these symptoms more than just randomly. The social justice emphasis is an attempt at self-justification.

Service projects and helping the poor and needy are great. They have to be in balance with a proper mass. That is all.
I see. Thanks for telling me.

Thats your interpretation of it, and false at best. You round up the whole bunch and only assumen what might be in their hearts. I could easily say that those who preffer the OF are those who wan’t to compromise the Truth and Church teaching, which of cours it false.

Can you please explain to me what a Traditional Catholic is!
Legend has it they are homo sapiens (Latin for “wise man” or “knowing man”), much like yourself that reside in the Catholic Faith. They are protective of the Traditions and traditions of the Church and are particularly fond of the Tridentine Mass. Known to have exceptionally good taste they can be easily lured in by the sounds of Gregorian Chant and the smells of incense. Their herds otherwise known as parishes generally congregate on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation. Sadly they have been put on the endangered species list.😦

Ha ha. Clever.🙂

I was born in 1972, and don’t know the difference between Trinidine mass and the ordinary mass so I guess I will be looked down upon. I am assuming a Trinidine mass is in Latin? My dad remembers those masses and I only know about them through him. Truly, this board has me somewhat depressed, because I was thought I was a good Catholic. I sin, I see my faults (I have many) but yet I try to do my best and I love God. I see that just like in regular life, people on this board look down upon eachother for not having the same beliefs. I signed up looking for support and to learn more about my beautiful faith, and sometimes what I find is bashing or one thinking they are better than the other. This is the second time I sign up on this board. I left once for a long time. I may do the same again. 😦 Thank you for the information Paulin VA.
