No, not just the priesthood. I am free, for example, to believe that the earth was created in 6 24 hour days or to believe that it took the Lord billions of years to get the universe to this point – as long as I agree that He is the one who did it. I am free to believe that Jonah literally spent 3 days and nights in the belly of the fish, or to believe that this tale is a parable . . . I did not know that there were only 15 passages that MUST be interpreted in a certain way according to the catholic church. Does this mean the rest is “open to interpretation,” but only among the priesthood?
