Thank you for your prayers. Recovering from gastro-intestinal illness. Delighted to find out about the Book of Tobias, or Tobit, as I have been praying to St. Raphael to guide both me and my son. That it is part of the Apocrypha has special meaning for me. That Tobias was a Jew helps me to understand something that a certain Catholic counselor explained to me.

As far as my seeking.

For I am half Irish-Catholic, half-Jew, so my son is also. I have a prayer card showing Prince Raphael surrounding Tobias with his wings as for protection, and another with a picture of St. Therese of Lisieux, and a “Novena Rose Prayer” as well as information and another prayer–I have the two cards placed side by side and they give me consolation in my fears for my son, that he is watched over; that I am with him somehow through the intercession of St. Therese–the beautiful young face I could never be for him.

My Catholic counselor explained the special place of Jews accorded even within the Catholic Church, for Jesus came to save them (us) first.

So now I am a Jew who believes that Jesus is the Messiah! Which also makes me a Catholic.

It’s all rather confusing and I am on a confused journey not knowing whether to stop here near my son or keep going, please pray for me for complete recovery from my illness and guidance, for instance, I thought at one point that an angel appeared to me to help me, but dismissed it, and am trying to figure this one, the Book of Tobit obviously underscores the importance of Angelic appearances. And I was praying for guidance from Archangel Raphael. So…

I thank God for your recovery from your illness, and for your desire to grow closer to Him through His Church, and that you are trying to pass on your faith to your son. That is more unique these days than it may seem. As for you being a Jew, I would say to continue looking into it, both in the Bible and in the many writings of the Church, especially those from our two most recent Popes, who often spoke about the relation between Jews and Christians. I also think there are a few questions you should ask yourself, in order to clarify your own understanding of this relation, like:
  1. Why is it precisely that being a Jew is special? Why was this considered special in the Bible - not only by the people, who were vulnerable to sin, but to God, who specifically chose the Jews and singled them out?
  2. What was Christ’s view of Jews and Gentiles? He is God, the Word Incarnate, the entire meaning and purpose of existence, the Bible, and both Judaism and Christianity, so He must always be the ultimate standard.
  3. And, what ways can you find to remain in contact with your Jewish culture and heritage while giving preeminence and religious obedience always to the Body of Christ which is the Church?
I am proud that you are showing such devotion, and I wish you all the best. I would advise to teach your child your own beliefs, which as a Catholic should always focus on the teachings and practices of the Church as the most important part of your life. I pray that you may find guidance in the Church and Her saints, that you may be forgiven all your sins, and I ask for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, your guardian angel, and St. Paul, that greatest convert from Judaism who spoke very often about these issues. God bless. 🙂

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Praise the Lord! I always petition the conversion of Jews when I pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Tobit was always one of my favorite books. It shows how much God loves us and it shows how beautiful devotion to God can be. You never know when you may meet with an angel.
Although you may not recognize him, you will know you are in the presence of someone very special. Be alert, you are most likely to meet him in the suffering and the poor. 👍

Mother Mary, I commend forpain to you. Please shower down graces upon him/her and help him/her to pray ceaselessly, to rejoice always and to give thanks in all circumstances. May his/her devotion to you and to your Holy Rosary bring him/her ever so close to Christ. Amen.

Loving God thank You for the blessings and relief that you have given this child of Your love.
Please continue to heal and lead as You desire.

*** Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen
