I was watching TBN for a few minutes ( forgive me for straying ) and this guy was " casting out " demons in the name of Jesus.
He was commanding them to acknowledge Jesus is Lord, and then to leave. There was no disfiguration etc. tha I associated with possession. Now I don’t want to discuss the tactics of the enemy ( may the Lord rebuke satan ) but it seems like these protestant deliverers are either fools, liars, or tools of satan. I don’t believe these people were possessed. the demon of " sloth " …please
Sins are not manifested into a being, Demons are fallen angels, not personality traits. I have never encountered a demon, though I live near enough an abortion mill that I may sometime. I hope not.
I would probably lose control of bodily functions if I did. I think these Protestant. " exorcists" would too. if they met a real demon.I hope I don’t sound to ant-Protestant. your thoughts?

I wish I knew which one it was that you saw. One has been shown to be a fraud by other Protestants with regard to his healing ability. I know that he “casts out” demons as well.

Biblically, exorcism was not reserved to the 12. They reported ot Jesus about someone casting out demons in his name, and he told them not to stop him. That said, only a trained and prepared exorcist needs to try. Messing with the devil is not easy. It takes a focus that most people do not have. I mean, come on, the enemy of God vs. a fallen mortal? Without a soul truly sure of its unity with God, the man becomes prey.

I would not be too harsh on them. It may be an act. They may think that they are helping. They may be helping. Just don’t look at it as anything to be concerned with. A priest told me once that people give too much credit to the devil and not enough to themselvses. The enemy of the soul is the flesh, the world, and the Devil. That is the order that they attack you.

Are you saying that protestants who are involved with exorcisms tend to be unsure of their relationship with God? Can they, too, not be “trained” to do it without the catholic church?

No doubt that many ministers are fake or living in sin in the protestant and catholic churches, but why should protestants be considered unqualified? Don’t get me wrong, I agree with the priest you referenced whole-heartedly, but I do think exorcism are a real thing. Have you ever heard of Neil Anderson who started Freedom in Christ Ministries? He may worth looking into.

Actually, I should have been more clear. A Protestant can be prepaired. Some are and do cast out the devil. It is not even a matter of holiness or Catholic training. There is more to it. Any reading of real exorcists shows that there is more to it. The issue is with those denominations who accept no concept of physical manifestations of the devil. They are generally not the ones to attempt it. Many people think it is as simple as ordering the devil out. It is not.

Oh, I totally agree. It is ignorance for some of those folks to either deny or ignore physical maifestations. Casting out sin is different than casting out demons. I don’t understand how they could confuse the difference.

Because with one you accept that you are guilty. With the other, you blame someone else.

We had a thread on here last year about wheather or not only Catholic Preists can cast out teh devil. I made some people mad by asserting that anyone could, but not everyone should. Mystic Warrior on this board has performed exorcisms. It is not somethign to be toyed with.

Dear Traillius,

I highlighted the sentence you made. I don’t know whether or not you mean this. For me, there is no need for the satan to acknowledge Jesus as God. They have already knows this. From the gospels we have read stories that Jesus expelled satans, and those satans spoke who Jesus really was. So, all satan knows that Jesus is God. No need for human to remind those satans that Jesus is God. What we need to command those satans, is to obey us, if we really believe that Jesus is within us.

What they were doing here, traillius, is casting out a demon based on the traits it brings. If the deliverance minister doesn’t know a demon’s name, he may refer to the demon by its traits. The ministers are aware that a demon is an actual being and they are not rebuking some sort of personalized sin. This is not necessarily a “Protestant” thing; Fr. Michael Scanlon discusses this extensively in his book, Deliverance from Evil Spirits.

Francis MacNutt, in his book “Healing” (about, obviously, the charismatic healing ministry) has a chapter called “Exorcism and Deliverance.” In it, he makes a distinction between the two. He writes that exorcism is needed when a person is possessed, whereas deliverance is needed when a person is * oppressed* by a demon.

Demonic oppression, according to him is much, much more common than exorcism, which is rare. A person is oppressed when a demon has his hooks in you, so to speak. He entrenches himself into a vice or addiction and holds you captive–but he doesn’t take over your body. He writes that persons with addictions, such as alcoholism, might be oppressed. Such persons’ addiction become exacerbated by the demon’s presence.

MacNutt was a Catholic priest until the '80s when he left the priesthood. He is still an active Catholic and is well respected in the healing movement. I read his book “Healing” cover-to-cover when I was 17.

You should read this book to get a different perspective on the subject of exorcism…The Rite by Matt Baglio.

It is advised that the untrained not do it…for the Devil is sly and very capable of tricking the untrained. To even do one, a priest needs the permission of his bishop…and has to be spiritually and mentally prepared.

yes your right most exorcists have a special anointing from God bob Larson ministries is one of them along with the Mcnutts and Elijah house and fathers of mercy.if not done properly people could end up seven times worse than before.

I don’t know about a special annointing, but I do know that Larson charges hundreds to thousands of dollars for his “services.” It seems to me that a person with an authentic gift would freely give others what God had freely given him.

my prayers for you, living near a place like this. perhaps your prayers will be intrumental in its closure? that would be awesome. however, to the topic at hand. i dont think they are casting out demons. i dont believe anyone but a priest has this authority. in some cases, they may genuinely believe they are actually doing a good thing. but in most cases its simply a way to make money…lots and lots of money. enough to buy private planes, mansions,( not in glory) and bently or mercedes. and yes, if they encountered say… one of the watchers, they would probably lose control of their facilties to put it nicely. i wont go into detail. but no. they really couldnt handle it. Peace and prayers for you. :signofcross:
