Democrats shouldn't think they'll automatically win the 2018 midterms

This is complicated, because Trump isn’t really the GOP, but there is overlap.

I think their poor fundraising is the best indicator that they are not in favor with their constituency. DNC donors may not like Trump, but they aren’t really complaining about what’s happening to the country.

There are lot people who don’t like Trump, but aren’t complaining about how things are going.

In 2016 I went to our state capital for a Rosary rally inside the dome. One of the speakers was a deacon from another state who stated it was OK morally to not vote if both candidates were repugnant. And supposedly he had the backing of his bishop. I vehemently disagreed with him. Even if you dislike him personally Trump’s SCOTUS picks are much more likely to overturn Roe v Wade.

Overturning Roe is a long shot, but defending religious free exercise is an important aspect of this current waiver of judicial nominees.

In effect we are hiring a plumber, to fix the pipes. Too many people are focused on what clothes the plumber wears and if he/she is affable, so we constantly hire people who say the right stuff but never get the job done.

It fails to mention the higher interest rates that will impact house affordability and consumer spending. The 10-yr yield is already well over a point of what it was when Trump was sworn in.

What’s worthy of note is that the yield rose in spite of stock market drop of 1100 in the last week. It is not usual that stocks and bonds are sold off at the same time. Could it be the foreigners have finally woken up and decided our debt is too great? We’ll find out in a few months. Of concern should be that the Secretary of the Treasury is pushing for an earlier debt ceiling rise because revenues have been smaller than expected.

If Dems don’t win the 2018 elections, expect a primal scream of anguish that will make the reaction to Trump’s election feel like a swim in a warm, placid lake.

I think many conservatives feels the same way. I don’t like Trump’s behavior and wish he would not tweet, but I like what he is accomplishing in the country.
