As Catholics IMHO we should hang our heads in shame for allowing this to happen. The Catholic vote could have stopped this from happening. But, if we added those that call themselves anti-abortion or pro-life this is a travesty.

We will reap only what we sow and this time it is death to many more children.
As Catholics we should be hanging our heads in shame for allowing so many fellow Catholics - even within our own families, not just the parish - to continue to delude themselves that ABC and abortion are ok so long as one’s conscience is clear about the decision to avail themselves of either.

THAT is our biggest battle, people…not legislation, not politics.
We have to start from the inside out…as we get our own to understand and accept the wisdom of the Church’s teaching the demand for ABC and abortion will decline significantly, no longer making the business profitable.

The attempt to solve the problem through politics and the courts was a valiant effort. It resulted in balancing the supreme court and in getting prospective laws heard and discussed. But that path has been closed off at least until 2008…so I say we need to redirect our efforts to developing Catholic education programs for our parishes to teach about Theology of the Body, Humanae Vitae and to distribute materials from Priests for Life. Since the teachings will be Catholic, parishes won’t lose their tax-exempt status because this isn’t about politics anymore…it’s about getting the Good News out to our own from our own.

It’s time to start good ripples from which the tidal wave will come.

I am sure that some who voted for pro-abortion canidates did so to send a message about the war.
37% about the war alone, according to post-election polls.
However for many this the war was just the latest rationalization to vote for pro-abortion candidates.
This was not a pro-abortion election nor a pro-Democratic Party election nor a pro-liberalism election. It was all about Bush and his and his party’s failures. It was an election against them. And, Bush’s subsequent actions and statements have confirmed that.

The Democrats’ razor-thin majority in the Senate includes a handful of pro-life Democrats (Nelson in Nebraska; Casey in Pennsylvania; Pryor in Arkansas) as well as a handful of other Democrats who have refused to kowtow entirely to NARAL’s agenda by voting, for example, against partial birth abortion (Lincoln in Arkansas, Reid in Nevada, among others). Granted the number of these Democrats in the Senate is small, the fact is they exist. The Democratic leadership needs to be reminded of this fact, and the public – especially pro-life Democrats and pro-lifers generally – should insist that the Democrats – whose majority DEPENDS on a few pro-life Democrats – SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO STACK THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE only with Democrats who are 1000% pro-“abortion rights” like Kennedy, Kohl, Levin and the like. Because if they get away with doing that, then no judicial nominee will get a floor vote in the next two years; every nomination will be killed in committee. If the Democrats truly had not only a Senate majority but ALSO a pro-“abortion rights” majority, perhaps such stacking of the Judiciary Committee would be defensible – at least from a majority-rule perspective. But they DON’T – so if they try it, it should not be allowed to stand. (And it will kill the party at the polls 2 years from now if they do try it.)
Unfortunately, Senator Leahy, a Catholic, is chair of the Judiciary Committee and any pro-life judge that the president nominates, will not even get a hearing in committee.

I ask you where are our Bishops and priests? Everyday at Mass we should hear from our leaders that abortion is murder and as Catholics we should not support political canidates in favor of abortion. Catholic polictians that support abortion should be publicly denounced by the church and ex-communicated. If the church spoke up and demanded to be heard these polictians would change their minds. But as long as our church leaders remain silent, abortion will continue and the teachings of Christ will be abandon. Where are our leaders voices?

So true. But I think we can get a pretty good idea when we read many of the posts on the forum concerning politics of why this is happening. Too many are arguing that issues beyond the “non-negotiables” are more important. We get the government we deserve unfortunately. And, of course, Senator Leahy is a Catholic?

I can’t speak for others, but I’m glad to say that our parish priest speaks against abortion regularly in his homilies.

Sure it should have, but many Catholics don’t see abortion as a non-negotiable issue. Many Catholics, unfortunately, are pro-abortion. I believe it will take some strong action from some of our Bishops against some of the Catholic pro-abortion politicians, up to excommunication from the Church, to get people to see this issue as a real issue in how they vote.

http://www.lifenews.com/supremecourt2.jpgLas Vegas, NV (LifeNews.com) – During the Democratic presidential debate last night in Nevada, all the leading candidates for the party’s nomination said they would demand that any appointee to the Supreme Court support abortion. They each said they would only send the Senate nominees who want to uphold the Roe v. Wade decision.

When asked why I will not vote for a Democrat I give the above as the main example.**

When asked why I typically vote for Republicans I also cite the same information.

The GOP is far from perfect, but if we could find it in our hearts to vote as a block, we could change this country for the better.

Unfortunately many who support the Democrats do so for social issues that they place at a higher level than life issues, or they do it because they always did it that way, or because they actually are pro-abortion.
