Wow, I went to Eucharistic Adoration at my parish yesterday after work, and it felt great to go and get some quiet time with Jesus. Then I went home and had a lovely dinner with my wife and a good friend of ours. I went upstairs to bed looking forward to the weekend, said my rosary, hung it up around the bed-post, and went to sleep. Then I had the most graphic dreams of possessed children with yellow eyes breathing fog and translucent worms flailing in hell-fire. I woke up and it was 3:00 a.m. go figure. What a rotten night! And, no, this isn’t a normal dream for me. Usually, I dream of comical non-sense things. I’d kinda like to talk to my priest about it, but I don’t want him to think I’m cracked. That’s where you all come in. Any advise?

((((breakout80)))))…while unsettling- you were entrusted with a vision…and a mission…it is always your choice to accept it or not…the vision was symbolic- the “children” were God’s children that need your prayers-those who don’t take God seriously or even know Him-(this wasn’t Old Hag syndrome -that’s a very real sleep disturbance that can be handled medically)…this was a vision from God- the 3:00 validates this- numbers are often used in angelic communication and the 3 is about the Trinity and Jesus being around you now to help- and the 0 is about completion and a reminder that you are One with God…it is a request to keep praying with another(often unpleasant) focus for those prayers-…it is a blessing and a request for commitment to service of others. through prayer…hope this helps ((hugs))) God Bless

Behold the Cross of the Lord. Begone, ye enemy powers. The Lion of the Tribe of Juda, the root of David has conquered. Alleluia, Alleluia. Amen.
You should not use imprecatory prayer.
saint-mike.org/apologetics/QA/Answers/Spiritual_Warfare/s0403220053.html

Imprecatory prayer is any command directed toward the demon. You should only pray by calling upon God, the saints or angels.

Instead of:
I rebuke you…
Begone…

Say:
God rebuke…

Try this prayer instead:
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle;
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray:
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
cast (thrust) into hell Satan and all (other) evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen

Hey, JC:

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut. That’s what I sort of derived from the experience as well. Although I wasn’t sure about the call to prayer. Isn’t council with knowledgeable like-minded folks grand?:o
Well, I’ll definitely step up the prayer life. I’ve had one dream like this before, and it was the night I decided that I would actually become Catholic and attend RCIA; it just wasn’t so graphic.

Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou! Rebuking directly has always felt wrong to me.

At the same time, the Prayer Against Storms, found in the little blue Pieta book has always been miraculously effective every time we’ve prayed it. I’ll have to think about that one.

Wear the medal of St. Michael and St. Benedict.

👍

Get better soon

Do you have any idea how SCARY these experiences are? I feel it’s possible that something could be in my room when I’m dreaming and my subconcious is warning me to pray for protection.

PLEASE HELP!!!
Mordocai… God bless you. I’ve been troubled, at times… by similar dreams. I can tell you what steps I have taken. Perhaps they will help you, too.

First… I would recommend that you call your parish office and request to have a priest come over and bless your home.

Next, you might wish to keep a small crucifix under your pillow. For two nights, after I had acquired mine… I woke up, in the middle of the night… holding my little crucifix up over my head. It was weird at the time. But I’ve felt a real sense of “protection” since then. (I tied my little crucifix to the bed post, with a string… so if it falls off the bed during the night, I have only to “reel” it in).

Also… I would recommend that you use holy water on a regular basis. Bless yourself with it, prior to bedtime. And it would be very helpful to keep a small statue of Our Blessed Mother near your bed, too.

The use of these sacramentals should in no way be superstitious. But they are “weapons” of a sort, to assist us in the spiritual battles we all endure in this life.

Above all… please remember that God loves you. And that He will never permit anything, which is beyond your strength. We are HIS children. If ever you feel “under attack”… invoke the Holy Name of Jesus. Do this, over and over… until you feel at peace. The devil and it’s minions will run in terror, from the Holy Name of Jesus.

I will keep you in my prayers. Because I know how you’re feeling. May God bless you and give you peace and comfort.

MV 🙂

Wow, I have had the same kind of “dreams” too! But they are not dreams, as I am usually half awake as it seems to me, just cannot move. I am literally petrified of the dark because of them. I wish I was not so afraid. They are so frightening though when they happen. My worst experiences were when I was coming back towards the Catholic faith.

I really appreciated reading all the suggestions, and hearing others experiences. They are awful things to have happen, but at least I know I am not alone.

ok its simple

from my own experience, just pray, the ones that helped me is our father, hail mary, gaurdian angel, saint micheal, and REV 12.

try memorizing those if you find your self paralized.

and as your heart pounding. Thats basically your warnings signs going off. Just stay relaxed and once the ordeal is done praise GOD and splash a little holy water on yourself. and remember they cant hurt you unless youlet them. But watch out cause they can hurt the ones you love to get to you.

hopfully for you they wont talk to you.

i will keep you in my prayers

Could also be a sleep disorder called night terrors. Prayer helps in all cases.

I used to have a recurring dream of someone breaking into our bedroom. In one dream I could just about see the intruders face as he was about to attack. I’d try to yell or scream in my dream but of course, could not because I was asleep. I finally got around to installing an alarm system.

Rather definitely the real thing.

So, prayer, especially the St. Michael prayer, and before you go to bed for protection. Sacramentals, such as holy water and blessed crucifixes.

Also have the priest come over for a visit and have your house blessed. It’s a good opportunity to get to talk to him too.

If the harrassment continues, it could be a good sign that you’re proceeding in holiness, because anyone who really strives to be holy will meet with real opposition. However that’s not the only reason this sort of thing happens.

If it gets really bad, go to the priest, and tell him about it. Convince him that it’s real, or go to another priest till you find one who believes the Catholic Faith. Then ask that priest to call the diocese for you to find an exorcist to help you with a severe case of demonic oppression.

If you want to study up on the matter, Amorth’s books, as well as the Philokalia will help you with the details. The latter is superior than the former.

Benedice.

It’s important whenever there appears to be “paranormal” activity to rule out natural causes first.

What the OP described sounds to me like a form of sleep paralysis. We are all “paralyzed” when we are asleep, or else we would physically act out our dreams. Sometimes a person can become partially awake in the middle of a dream and find themselves unable to move while having a terrible nightmare that seems very real. If a person is having this experience repeatedly, then a sleep study is probably in order.

If medical or other natural causes are ruled out, then it’s more likely the cause is demonic. It is also possible for demons to piggyback on an existing illness or disorder and make it worse.

Here are a couple bedtime prayers that are beneficial if someone is experiencing nightmares or if they suspect nighttime demonic attacks:
Bedtime Protection Prayer
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of the name His Name, I subject my mind and my dreams only to the work of the Holy Spirit. I ask you Lord to bind up all powers of darkness and forbid them to work in my dreams or any part of my subconscious while I sleep. Amen.
Night Prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours
A more powerful bedtime prayer is found in the official prayer of the Church, the Night Prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours. When praying the Liturgy of the Hours one is not just praying by themselves or with their families, but praying with the entire Church – the Church in heaven, in purgatory, and on earth. To pray to appropriate Night Office go to the ebreviary website Night Prayer page

Hi Mordocai…I have had demonic dreams on and off with a very strong evil presence. I new I was in the dream state with demonic attacks but I could not get out of the dream as hard as I tried. I could feel such evil around me. I told my husband if I am ever talking in my sleep please wake me up immediately. This went on for weeks at a time. Then all was quiet and they would come back. I would pray before I went to sleep to give me safe passage in my dream without these attacks. I dreaded going to sleep knowing what was to come. As soon as I would have an atttack I would get up and immediately pray…Jesus said “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yole upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”. Matthew 11:28-29 I would just keep praying that prayer and then I would have safe passage in my dreams. 25 years ago I had several demonic encounters. I would be asleep and then out of no where I would wake up gasping for a breath, as if I just saw a ghost. This happened several weeks, maybe months. A couple of times I would wake up and a green wispy thing about 2 feet tall was floating between me and my husband in bed. I kept swatting at it and finally it went away. I knew I was not dreaming. Shortly after that, I had my Bible Study Group and 2 priests come over to bless the house on a 90 degree day. The two priests blessed each room. After they blessed the rooms we all went out on the deck on a beautiful 90 degree sunny day. All of a sudden, the temperature dropped to about 15 degrees, clouds started to form and it started to hail. I believe in my heart of hearts that demons left my house that day. I have never had a gasp of air again or green floating things appear, but in the last year or two I have felt the attacks of demons in my dreams. All I can tell you is to pray and fast. I accepted Christ back in 1970. I know He is always with me and nothing will separate me from Him and Him from me. I wish you the best that God has to offer. Sherri
A few months ago, I had 2 or 3 dreams where, in my dream (half awake half asleep one of the times) I felt about the strongest evil presence I’ve ever felt in my life trying to get inside me. And what’s worse, one of the times I was fully awake with the same feeling.
During those experiences, I was paralyzed and all I could do was pray.
Calling on Mary took care of that.
Last night I had a similiar dream. A very evil presence attempting to get inside me and possess me.
In all these instances my heart was POUNDING. Emphasis on POUNDING.

I talked to one of my bishops about this a few weeks ago, it stumped him and he asked a more knowledgeable spiritual director, who advised me to see a cardiologist and go from there.

Well, I’m gonna be goin to see a cardiologist, cuz I was havin problems with my heart anyway.

Be that as it may…WHAT IS GOING ON???

Don’t be so quick to pass this off as a medical problem. Not to say that it isn’t, but it cannot be ignored! I would talk with a priest if I were you, and have, as an above poster suggested, blessed crucifixes in every room, or at least the one that you sleep in. Pray the Rosary and asked the Lord to protect you. Praying to your guardian angel and Saint Michael also might help.

I’ve had something like this happen to me when I was awake! It was really scary, and I don’t think there was any ‘natural’ cause in this case.

I always do the same thing. I cross myself, say a prayer, wear my (blessed) rosary, and put holy water around the room. You can say the St Michael prayer and the Hail Mary. For some reason, this has always worked for me. I read in a book by St Louis de Montfort that the devil really hates the Rosary - even the material rosary itself. When I feel really spiritually attacked, I hold it or put it around my neck, and that actually makes things much better. Holy water is great too.

🙂 God bless.

Had a demonic dream two nights ago and wanted to share it somewhere. No sleep paralysis was involved. I was touring a house. I went into the library & began to feel a malevolent presence. I said to my wife “I’m never going into this room again”. Then we went into the adjoining bedroom. Over near one wall, I looked over a rail, and there was a demonic presence in the form of a grey head & face that floated toward me. I felt angry and punched it down like a baloon. It sounds comical, but it was deadly serious in the dream with much anxiety. It floated back & I punched it down again. This happened about 3 or 4 times. It spoke, but I don’t remember what was said. The words were worthless like the prattling of leaves blowing across a sidewalk. Then it moved to the center of the room and was seated in a chair as a full, humanoid figure, seemingly made of ashes. It spoke something, but I don’t remember what it said. I said “You’ve already been defeated” and left. [defeated by Jesus, that is]. Then I woke up. In the morning, I sprinkled holy water around the house. So far, no re-occurance.

Mark109…while I’m certain this was very unnerving-it wasn’t demonic- it was symbolism…your angels around you assuring you by symbolic example that you are on the right path-they are acknowledging your love of Jesus and what that means in your life…the house is you-and searching through it and finding and beating and emphatically denying the right of any such thing in your life-is you going through a “cleansing” and ridding yourself of the final residue of anything inappropriate…👍 Hope this helps …God Bless
