I recently became interested in this topic as a result of watching “the Rite.” 😃 It occured to me that if this subject could be proven, then that has immense implications for humanity! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this subject. I was wondering if there were any official books on this from the Catholic Church, if there’s a certain prayer you gotta do, who all is permitted to do them, etc…

Don’t dissapoint me, CAF. I know you won’t. 🙂

God Bless…

Books to read: The Rite (movie is based on) by Matt Baglio. Fr. Gabriel Amorth’s “An Exorcist tells his story” and Interview with an Exorcist by Fr. Fortea are good books.

Here is an article by/about Fr. Amorth:

catholicnewsagency.com/news/romes-exorcist-finding-bl.-john-paul-ii-effective-against-satan/

And here is (I saw this on Disc Channel years ago) the background story on which the 1973 movie The Exorcist is based from:

youtube.com/watch?v=dDgoNlOn-hk

Part 4 is chilling and you will see an angel show up.

Check out the Roman Ritual, The Rite of Exorcism. That will have all the prayers and things of that nature. Only priests who are given permission by their Ordinaries can peform exorcisms.

Exorcisms are done in the bible by Jesus many times in the four Gospels.

God bless.

👍 Good point!

Um … also, Malleus Maleficarum, and old traditional text, might come in handy too.

But remember, the Devil is a loser.

No, I do not think so, but you may search the CC canon law. Exorcism is the bishop’s task but is delegated to a priest. And an exorcism has to have the bishop’s permission.

True. And something I learned a little more than a year ago is that Priests, not laity, are the only ones that can actually perform true exorcisms. THe priest must be of a pretty high caliber and within the confines of his own bishops diocese. A priest should not attempt exorcism outside the diocese in which he possesses faculties. Beyond that, I’m unsure. This is what I heard on our local Catholic radio station. I’m not sure if it was CAF.

The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist
The Good Fight
Barbara McGuigan with Fr. Gary Thomas, Pastor of Sacred Heart in Saratogo, CA and the appointed exorcist for the Diocese of San Jose

The measure of the Church is Her Saints: the men and women who with God’s Grace have lived up to the highest ideals of Holiness as presented by Jesus in the Beatitudes. The measure of the Church’s greatness is in Her Saints. Today’s past Saint is St. John Vianney. Fr. Thomas shares with us some of his knowledge and experience in the realm of exorcism as well as deliverance prayers. Only Bishops are the duly ordained exorcists of a Diocese and those Priests he has entrusted that healing ministry to.

Since so many people have questions about exorcism and spiritual warfare, it might be nice to have a topic that’s dedicate to just providing links for accurate information on the subject.

Unfortunately, the Malleus Maleficarum (or Hammer of the Witches) would not be of much use. It is an extremely questionable source, and I believe it was put out of usage because of this fact by the Church.

ese Cristo con su Cuerpo, con su Sangre, con su Alma, y con su Divinidad,
prisonero de amor.

No deacons cannot do the Solemn Rite of Excorcism, however they can do delieverance prayers and house blessings.

Thanks Amsjj! I’ll add that program to my reference library. 🙂

Edit: Adding a reference I neglected earlier. This is a very good book for studying the Angels and will allow people to understand the subject of spiritual warfare without transgressing into the realm of demonology.
