Do demons still possess individuals in today’s era? If so what are known symptoms? Will most priests still perform exorcisms?

I am curious about the various opinions.

Answer to your 1st question is YES.
To answer #2 I would suggest Fr. GAbriel Amorth’s 2 books on the subject.
#3 answer , NO they are not allowed unless the bishop gives permission. Fr. Amorth’s books will explain better. Too much to go into on a internet forum.

For sure demons take over people. Careful though and not blame demons for what could be a mental issue with the person. I have heard that each diocese or arch diocese has an exorcist. if you supsect a possession talk to your local priest and they will get the ball rolling.

Some common symptoms of infestation could be sudden burst of anger or rage, speaking in a language they can’t possible know, not acting like themselves, amongst others. There are plenty of books out there concerning this, google it.

Possession is certainly real. Read Father Malachi Martin’s Hostage to the Devil. Be warned: This is a very powerful account of actual exorcisms.

I fully believe possession is real.

But just to play the devil’s advocate… what would you say to someone who claims that Satan’s best weapon is to prove he doesn’t exist so therefore why would he allow demons to possess people?

I ask because this is my husband’s opinion. He doesn’t believe that possessions happen in today’s era.

On the other hand I have had protestant friends claim to have witnessed possession and it seemed like theatrics to me. Who knows on that account. As for other stories, possession certainly happens.

But what allows a person to become possessed? Can a person of faith become possessed? I would think that God would not allow that to happen, but again I don’t really know. It’s just a guess.

According to Father Amorth’s book, mentioned earlier, a Christian can be possessed if by special permission of God. It would be extremely rare, however.

I need to get a copy of this book… Will look on amazon; =D

Having been present when a Jesuit Priest performed an exorcism on a 16 year old boy I would say definitely yes.

A Christian can also be possessed if they INVITE the demon into their soul. Remember, the devil comes as an angel of light. Many NewAge stuff has “Spirit Guides” and stuff like that. Who do you think these “spirits” are? They ain’t saints or angels. That only leaves demons.

If a Christian starts communicating with one of these and allows them to “guide” them, the demon will gradually take more & more control until the person is possessed.

See here and here for a more detail account of what I am trying to say.

there are confusion between possessions and mentally ill… can anyone explain it…
