When an Exorcist drives out a demon, does the Exorcist become a target for demonic attack in the future. I ask this because it would make sense for other demons to take revenge for their brother that was driven out?

Yes, us laypeople pray in support of the exorcists because they have a risky job and our spiritual support helps protect them.
The exorcist also has to be spiritually strong and balanced. Bishops choose exorcists carefully to make sure they are up to the task.

Priests and clergy are constantly attacked and tempted by the devil and his legions.
In regards to exorcist I believe there is a two way street for them. Some demons may feel “scared” or hesitant to try ant attack on them because they know their resolve and have slot of “weapons” at their disposal (especially Latin. Satan hates Latin)
But also I can see why demons would want to Target exorcists more. Remember demonic attacks don’t have to be physical, in fact they are more mental and spiritual if anything

There is no brotherhood among demons but performing works of mercy will draw their hatred.

Why would God allow his enemies to attack his friends who are dedicated to fight his enemies?

God “allows” evil in the world as a consequence of man’s sins.
A person who is spiritually strong and doing the will of God has nothing to fear from the demons.
If one needs God’s help in fighting them off, then simply ask him and he’ll help you.

I have read probably more books written by and or about exorcists than is good for me.

This of course has come up in interviews and so on, and by that I mean attacks on exorcists in general. The answer I would give as a result of all that reading is yes and no. I know of at least two exorcists that had to retire after debilitating attacks during or after a particularly rigorous exorcism. [from the books]

Others have reported problems from a demon they were later to exorcise, and of course there is always danger of attacks during the exorcism. From my understanding, mistakes made during a exorcism or before one can be dangerous. The priest has to be adequately predisposed ahead of time.

All of this being said, there are plenty of people needing this ministry and when the prayers begin it can be nothing more than foul language and spitting. I would say most of them are like that. Sometimes it takes years to liberate someone. The person receiving this ministry has to cooperate with the process too. They have to go to confession and live an upright lifestyle. No porn no occult practices etc.

So there is always the potential for bad things happening, but being properly disposed and experienced goes a long way, and then of course God’s will and purpose. So once again, the answer is yes and no.
