So if you want to argue against Orthodox why Catholic sacraments are valid, you would need to show why the Augustianian view of sacramental theology is correct over the Cyprianic view.

Well, we don’t see ourselves as schismatics or heretics, so while “proving” the Augustinian theory would convince the Orthodox that our sacraments are valid- which would suffice to put to rest this particular question- it really would do nothing for us as far as ecumenical dialogue goes (as far as I can tell). It would just turn into, “Oh, great, you heretics have valid sacraments- they’re still illicit”

I think as far as ecumenical dialogue goes, it would lead to a further respect of the EO towards the RC by virtue of having grace in the sacraments and recognition of the RC as a real apostolic entity (same way the RC’s view the EO). But yea, my answer is only in relation to the specific question asked.

There are practical problems for the Orthodox hierarchy to accept this, particularly in the western world.

Accepting the worship of the Catholic Church as valid, would lead to more intermarriage among Greeks and Catholics living in America and losing membership- especially when the couple live in communities with very small or nonexistent Orthodox communities. Even in towns with relatively large EO communities like Pittsburgh, it can be a lengthy enough trip to orthodox churches.
