Children are far more flexible than adults. 
If the various ways of receiving were explained in a balanced way, they would not be that upset. It often happens that lay people are not comfortable with distributing on the tongue for whatever reason. Fear og dropping the host, most commonly. But you still receive Jesus.
The Extraordinary minister was way over the top in causing a scene, but there has to be a reason why this occurred in the first place.
We teach children both ways, and they choose (most often based on their parent’s preference/instruction).

Father gave excellent advice. Why would someone prefer to go against the wisdom of the clergy?
