denying Jesus?

Often I pray the Rosary in public-I’m a college student and getting the Rosary done while walking to classes is very efficient.

However, sometimes it can get embarressing where you’re walking towards a large crowd of people and it’s after a decade where you’re suppossed to cross yourself. Sometimes I wait until I have passed them to do it, since it would be awkward and embarrassing to do it right in front of them.

Is this in a sense ‘denying Jesus’? Is it morally wrong?

Sounds like you’re getting a bit scrupulous here.

While a public sign of the cross a good way to affirm your faith, at the same time Jesus told us to ‘not let your left hand know what your right is doing’ when we’re doing good works.

So there’s a time when being unobtrusive is the better course of action, and when an obvious gesture of piety can lead to spiritual pride, and perhaps turn your fellow students away rather than attract them.

99 out of a hundred people will not be looking at you or paying any attention whatever to what you do and don’t do. even if they did, so what? why on earth would making the sign of the cross in public bother you? with all the obscene speech and gestures that go on at the typical college campus, this worries you?

Alex - Puzzleannie is probably right that most people will not notice or care if you make the sign of the cross while passing them. However, if you prefer to wait until people have passed to do so, I really don’t see any thing wrong with it.
