I sprayed deodorant over my St. Benedict’s medal by mistake, now my deodorant has alcohol in it. So, does this mean my medal has lost it’s blessing and powers? I was recently exorcised off evil and I wear it as protection and remembrance of faith, so I can be really vulnerable about this. So will it still work or has it lost it’s powers and blessings?

No. It just smells better. That’s not how blessings work.

But what about the alcohol in my deodorant? Isn’t that a problem now?

So u drew an analogy between baptism and the blessing of sacraments? I get it, thankyou!

Yes. Certainly one is more “powerful” than the other, but the point is that it isn’t a strictly physical thing contingent on physical or chemical properties.

What do u mean by, “One is more powerful than the other” ?

Your baptism removed your original sin and made you a member of the Body of Christ. It is a Sacrement of initiation. The graces from it are more transformative and powerful than the graces from a blessed sacramental. I drew that distinction only because I didn’t want it to sound like these two things were on equal footing.

The Blessing is more powerful than evil or deodorant ,it has been blessed by a Catholic Priest in the Name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit ,so dont worry to much 1 Timothy 4:4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer.

1667 "Holy Mother Church has, moreover, instituted sacramentals. These are sacred signs which bear a resemblance to the sacraments. They signify effects, particularly of a spiritual nature, which are obtained through the intercession of the Church. By them men are disposed to receive the chief effect of the sacraments, and various occasions in life are rendered holy."173
[1673] When the Church asks publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ that a person or object be protected against the power of the Evil One and withdrawn from his dominion, it is called exorcism. Jesus performed exorcisms and from him the Church has received the power and office of exorcizing.178 In a simple form, exorcism is performed at the celebration of Baptism. The solemn exorcism, called “a major exorcism,” can be performed only by a priest and with the permission of the bishop. The priest must proceed with prudence, strictly observing the rules established by the Church. Exorcism is directed at the expulsion of demons or to the liberation from demonic possession through the spiritual authority which Jesus entrusted to his Church. Illness, especially psychological illness, is a very different matter; treating this is the concern of medical science. Therefore, before an exorcism is performed, it is important to ascertain that one is dealing with the presence of the Evil One, and not an illness.179

This thread and the one where you asked if you need to take your rosary off to go to the bathroom suggests you’re a little paranoid and perhaps getting a bit superstitious.

I think you need to discuss this with a priest. You’re getting yourself all worked up over nothing.

Who performed an exorcism on you, a Catholic Priest or some one else?

Yes, what’s this about?

You can’t just drop an exoricism in there as a sidenote.

This thread is confusing. Why would alcohol from a deodorant even have any spiritual effects? What premise is being worked off here?

This is exactly what I was thinking. Therefor, I will not type it for fear of repetition. 😉

If you feel that you are wearing it as a protection from evil having yourself exorcised from evil ,better to change the medal as one cannot say what adverse effect the deodorant and it’s chemical components especially alcohol,a favorite item for evil spirits, caused on the medal.

Please delete this, the poster had recieved good information here about how deodorant has NO EFFECT on blessings. I fear you are feeding eachothers scruples. Alcohol especially the kind in deodorant is not a magnet for evil. It is used as a cleaning and sanitizing agent.
