Ouch! My fault. And I wasn’t bashing Jesuits in my post anyway. I am proud of the Loyola University BS I have and the DePaul MS I have. I guess I assumed it was Jesuit (BS students get integrated a lot more into the college than MS students do).

Pax,
Amy

Just as an offhand observation, homosexuals should thank their lucky stars that they live in this country, and not in a Muslim country.

If they did, they really would “just go away”.

And not in very pleasant ways, I might add.
And I’m sure you would be doing your Christian and human duty to rescue gay men and lesbians from mass murder.

Right?

I’m hope I’m right.

Meanwhile, if you want to strike a blow for yr faith, ask your married son or daughter if they are using birth control. And if they are, explain to them that they, their spouses, and their kids might not be welcome in yr house if they continue in this grave sin. This might be very difficult. It might cause permanent rifts. Taking yr faith’s teachings seriously demand courage. Hope you are up to it.

Sorry, Amy, I get my Irish up when some here like to point out the supposed shortcomings of the SJs.

BTW, are you kin to Anton?

John

Not not kin to Anton, though proud to share a moniker with our grand martyred mayor.

I like the SJs. They’re super sharp and dedicated to knowledge and God. They’re a testament to the fact that faith AND reason can go together.

If that situation developed, yes, I probably would. It still doesn’t mean that I would agree with or accept their lifestyle, however.

Well, my son is only four years old, so I don’t think I have to worry about that just yet. 😉

I hope so, too. Because if our Islamofascist friends ever do gain the upper hand, Christians are going to be losing their heads right along with homosexuals—probably side by side.

SIMILAR THREAD…

Catholic hospitals commit - and U.S. Bishops condone - live birth abortion

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=14964

The threads weren’t anything alike! That thread dealt with the early delivery of anencephalic babies (who were gonna die anyway regardless of if delivered at 24 or 36 weeks) at Loyola University Hospital.

I actually had Loyola University family healthcare (an HMO group) as my provider for quite a few years and I can tell you that they went to lengths to obey the letter of Catholic law. The gynecology practice was outsourced to a non-Catholic facility in order to comply with Church teachings and it wasn’t on the campus of the LU facility. That was so that they wouldn’t be prescribing ABC. The reason the anencephalic babies were not induced sooner than 23 weeks was because it would have been an abortion and LU hospital doesn’t perform abortions. So they waited until after the age of viability just in case a miracle occurred and the anencephalic were born alive and stayed alive. I don’t see the outrage here I guess.

As someone who used to consider himself gay but has since defined himself as person with SSA, I find it appalling that a Catholic University should be offering a degree in this. OTOH, if they want to pay expenses I’ll gladly go and present my viewpoints in one of the classes. Maybe I can help discourage someone from that life.

I think yr viewpoint should be heard. In not only Catholic colleges but in every college or university that has a gay studies program. And viewpoints that disagree with you should be heard as well. People should not be afraid to hear all sorts of views on homosexuality.

The folks from Courage and other “gays are sick” groups picketed my employer, the American Psychological Assoc, when APA did not agree “reparative therapy” was a legit therapy - i.e. - not reimbursiable by insurance. Funny how money is always an issue. But the folks from Courage and “gays are sick” groups have rights to free speech. I think colleges and universities should let students hear what they have to say.

Also, professors should encourage the students to research homosexuality. Read the APA’s conclusions, apa.org/pi/statemen.html
the American Medical Association’s conclusions,
ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/14754.html
the American Psychiatric Association’s conclusions,
apa.org/pubinfo/answers.html

Students can learn the scientific evidence. And balance that evidence with their own faiths’ traditions. And students can also learn that lesbians and gay men are also Americans who, like all citizens, have rights under the US Consititution. Even if their various faiths’ traditions say we do not.

Funny how money is an issue. Well, there’s no complaint as long as the money goes towards the apa but suggest a different type of therapy and suddenly the money is withheld. Why should one side get it all? Let’s have equality in treatment choices.

The APA does not get money from patients undergoing therapy. APA is the trade association of psychologists.

Reparative therapy is a “cure” looking for an illness. Homosexuality is a normal variant of human sexuality present in all human cultures throughout history. (see references in my last post). Also mental health professionals find no scientific basis in efforts to convert gay men and lesbians to heterosexual orientation. The American Psychiatric Association notes:

“To date, there are no scientifically rigorous outcome studies to determine either the actual efficacy or harm of “reparative” treatments. There is sparse scientific data about selection criteria, risks versus benefits of the treatment, and long-term outcomes of “reparative” therapies. The literature consists of anecdotal reports of individuals who have claimed to change, people who claim that attempts to change were harmful to them, and others who claimed to have changed and then later recanted those claims.”

That is why most insurance will not cover these types of therapy.

Would that equality in treatment extend to various New Age and Eastern treatments?

They continue to follow a circular argument. One is born gay and cannot change and if one changes they weren’t gay to begin with. I, for one, do not buy into this. Through prayer I have found that there is a basic change in orientation. Why can’t we put some money into this type of therapy? Otherwise why should we put it itno any therapy if homosexuality is not an illness to begin with.:ehh:

I’m all for it. This is a free country. I would do my utmost to discourage it when it leads one to the homosexual lifestyle but not everyone listens to me.😃

Is money being put into an therapy dealing with homosexuality? Which ones? What is the object of such therapy?

However, anyone who wants treatment can pay for it if they can find someone to offer it. It’s rare that offered money fails to find a taker.

Well, we do have quality in treatment choices. If I want acupuncture, I can get it. If i want Reikki, I can get it. If I want to see a cardiologist, I can see him. I can even go to Courage if I want to.

The insurance companies are quick to shell out $$$ for “acceptance” therapy but never for someone who is not happy with it and seeking repair. Then the psychologists get their pay and pass their dues on to the apa and we are at the mercy of an organization doing its own studies and instead of studying the whole population.

Anyone can go to a shrink and seek counseling. If insurance covers it, it will pay. I think the insurance companies think certain providers and certain treatments are phoney, so they won’t pay for them. For example, insurance won’t pay for Reikki.

So why is reparative treatment considered phoney and who determines that is? Follow the $$$ trail.
