I am so sick of so many things in my life, negativity! At every corner I come upon it and it swallows me. First of all, I am a slow learner and it takes me awhile to understand many things where most people have no problem at all. People get mad at me because I just don’t “get it” until I ask at least 3 or 4 times but I can’t help it, it’s how I am. It makes me feel stupid and I sometimes feel that God thinks I’m stupid too! I get feelings that He hates me, and thinks I’m worthless. Yet I love Him so much and I have known Him for almost 10 years now. But all through those years I’ve had problem after problem with my Faith, but I don’t want to let it go. NOTHING else to me has meaning, nothing but Chrit! Christianity! But because of my lack of inteligence I fall behind where others do not.

I’m also weary of my parish, no one seems friendly, except a few. I wish it was like my old church when I was Protestant, that was a family, but I don’t want to go there because I believe Catholicism, makes the most sense. Who else could I go to for the truth? No one!

Also, someone very VERY close to me has abandoned their faith, that I now feel so alone. No more partner in faith, unfriendly parish, no one to talk to about it, plus I’m always misunderstanding something and getting yelled at or called “stupid” or “dumb*ss.” I’m just sick of it and depressed. I don’t know what to do. I’m in need of seeing a priest, but I don’t know where to go anymore. Everything around where I live seems cold, empty now, lonely. Especialy losing my partner that doesn’t want anything to do with faith anymore. God knows my heart, He knows I’m very weak in certain matters, yet these matters are lashed onto me day after day after day, where others at least appear fine, at least they don’t feel abandoned. so I feel that God hates me and wants nothing to do with me, and it makes me feel crushed. NOTHING uplifting has happened to my spirit in ages, at least that’s how I feel. Please pray for me. I don’t know how much longer my hallowed soul can hold on.

I don’t mean to sound like “poor me poor me.” I’m just sick of being sad, alone, and depressed, so sick of it and the dam tears…

I know it is hard. I suffer from self-esteem issues and I hardly talk when I am uncomfortable. Have you tried going to a new parish? I dunno what to say. Depression isn’t fun. If you need someone to talk to tonite (err this morning) or tmmw, I will try to be on, just instant message me ( my screen name is in my profile) or just PM me.

I am also very slow, and can’t follow directions. People around me understand fast, and I am left in the dust. I have to ask people alot about easy things and worry that I sound stupid.

At one time, even Jesus felt abandoned, but as it turned out everything went great and by God’s will. I’ll pray for you, and that isn’t an empty promise.

This is cheesy, but look at these lyrics. azlyrics.com/lyrics/celinedion/thatsthewayitis.html I am a guy, and for someone reason I was listening to a Celine Dion song the other day, and brought the CD in (I dunno why) but now I understand. I was listening to this song, and then read your post. It makes sense. Please read the lyrics.

“That’s The Way It Is”

I can read your mind and I know your story
I see what you’re going through
It’s an uphill climb, and I’m feeling sorry
But I know it will come to you

Don’t surrender 'cause you can win
In this thing called love

When you want it the most there’s no easy way out
When you’re ready to go and your heart’s left in doubt
Don’t give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that’s the way it is

When you question me for a simple answer
I don’t know what to say, no
But it’s plain to see, if you stick together
You’re gonna find a way, yeah

So don’t surrender 'cause you can win
In this thing called love

When you want it the most there’s no easy way out
When you’re ready to go and your heart’s left in doubt
Don’t give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that’s the way it is

When life is empty with no tomorrow
And loneliness starts to call
Baby, don’t worry, forget your sorrow
'Cause love’s gonna conquer it all, all

When you want it the most there’s no easy way out
When you’re ready to go and your heart’s left in doubt
Don’t give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that’s the way it is

When you want it the most there’s no easy way out
When you’re ready to go and your heart’s left in doubt
Don’t give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that’s the way it is

That’s the way it is
That’s the way it is, babe
Don’t give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that’s the way it is.

O good way to find Catholic fellowship may be to look into secular orders like the Third Order Carmelites, or the Oblates of St Benedict in your area.

I have found that when I spend too much time focusing on myself, on how I feel or how badly I am being treated that I am seriously in need of a charitable giving mission.

You say people are unfriendly and say mean things because you are a “slow learner.” I am sure that you have many gifts to offer (you certainly write an intelligent and articulate post!) and it would benefit you to offer some of those gifts to those who are less fortunate. Perhaps volunteering in a group home for the disabled or aged. Maybe you could help your local homeless ministry distribute blankets or clothes to those who live on the streets. You could offer your talents by working with youth, perhaps as a Big Brother (if you are a boy!) or through a youth ministry. The best way to feel closer to God is to do what He commanded - love others as we should love ourselves. Helping others has an amazing way of swelling the spirit and making us feel more worthwhile.

God made you. God knows everything about you (even your IQ!). God is watching over you. Never doubt that your creator loves you.

Hey, listen. Alot of us have been down the same road. Hang in there. We all love you and are here for you.🙂 And remember, God loves you and will never leave your side:thumbsup:

I’ll be praying for you.

I can empathize with ***all ***you are saying. I suffer a mental illness and the stigma attached to it and have tremendous, tremendous, problems in my parish because of misunderstandings about mental illness and what it means and implies. I am quite alienated from my parish and not by my choosing or actions.
But I would really like to thank God for you, for it is obvious that you have clung to God and Faith through great difficulties indeed…saints bear that mark! Have you read any lives of the saints and how most of them did suffer terribly in spirit through many things, even temptations against Faith? I hope that The Lord will deliver you from your sufferings and grant you many and rich consolations…Remember no matter what we may feel, God never changes - never. He is *forever The Faithful One - *Lovingly Compassionately and Mercifully Understanding - He never changes… Blessings and Peace…Barb:)

Intelligent people tend to get much worse depressions than those from more normal backgrounds. Virtually everyone hits some limit sometime. For instance a medical student threw himself off the roof a couple of weeks ago. He’d just failed his final exams. However he must have been in the most intelligent 1% of the population to get in to medical school in the first place. You would dearly love his qualifications and opportunities. But he couldn’t see that.

Similarly I am bipolar, which many people think is a response to underlying depression. But I’ve got two degrees, one from Oxford. I don’t have a house, mortgage, wife, children, girlfriend, car, or pension, or even a real job. I am not really complaining, but intelligence isn’t always a passport to success.

A lot of parishes don’t function as communities. That’s because they were designed for a world without cars. When most people have cars, the geographic location of the parish isn’t so important, and members don’t see each other except on parish business. There’s no easy answer, but a lot of people feel the same way.

I am in a parish now where people are generally not as friendly as in other previous parishes. However, the priests have praised them for the way they support the Church, saying that it is a relief to be able to concentrate on Ministry rather than worrying about how they are going to pay their electricity bill.
I get bouts of depression.Everyone shares in Christ’s Sufferings. Some suffer from physical illness, some from mental illness.I am just learning to live with this.
The reason some people are not too friendly is possibly about their own insecurities. If they give people too much information about themselves, they might be gossiped about.
Don’t take it personally, they treat everybody the same way.If they are just too rude about it,be civil to them but have some urgent business to attend to when every blue moon they decide they want a chat.I’ve been in a Baptist Church for a Carol Service just before Christmas. My workmate introduced me to some very friendly people. However, after the service when we were having tea and sandwiches in the Church Hall, she left me for a few minutes
and her fellow Baptists round about never as much as said Good Evening.I take people as i find them.If i think that i might be going into a place where people might be rather stand-offish,i make sure
i have somebody with me or i might not go
Years ago,i was invited to a priest’s Jubilee Celebrations. There were the friendly types and the not so friendly types.Back then,i had a decent singing voice.Somehow,i banished my shyness and when they tried to start a sing-song i volunteered. At the end of the night, another priest who was present said it had been a great
night and, pointing at me he said,“you started it”.
If i can live with depression,so can you.

Thank you very much, you warmed my heart, all of you did. Wow, I was never expecting such positive responses. Why oh why can’t I find Catholics or Christians like all of you around here? Why, why, why?? 🙂 Those in my parish are like “Ok it’s Sunday, time for Church and then go back home to football, baseball, anything not to do with God, blah blah blah.” At least that’s what it feels like.

3 years ago my wife and I got married in our parish on a typical Sunday, we invited a few friends and family members, but still wanted to have the sacrament on our regular Sunday mass, with the rest of the parish. I remember our priest being happy about that and invited all of the parish to congradgulate us or speak with us, but to my surprise, not ONE of them did! I mean, ok, lol, whatever, that’s fine, everyone has their own life, but it just felt cold, empy, un family-like. But whatever.

I’ve read St. Francis of Assisi and fell in love with him. As for other saints, I haven’t read their personal lives, just spiritual deeds they’ve done.

Thanks for cheering me up everybody. God bless you.

I hear you. It sucks the life out of things.

It takes humility to recognize my weaknessess. For example, on this forum, there are lots of people who are much smarter than me. Every once and a while I have to swallow humble pie and accept correction. But I see that as a good thing. It keeps me humble. Humility is a virtue that keeps away the sins of pride and envy. Just remember, the prouder we are, the more it hurts when we are humbled. The more humble we are, the more we can give glory to God for the gifts he has given to others and accept correction from them.
Read 1st Corinthians Chapter 13
If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
You should also read up on St Therese of Lisieux’s A Story of a Soul. She felt she had no way of becoming a saint until she understood that the the glue that keeps us all together and the highest gift given to the church is Love. She made that the chief goal.
I’m also weary of my parish, no one seems friendly, except a few. I wish it was like my old church when I was Protestant, that was a family, but I don’t want to go there because I believe Catholicism, makes the most sense. Who else could I go to for the truth? No one
Try volunteering, or talk to your parish priest about getting involved with something, or even starting something up at your church. My life opened up when I decided to volunteer with my parish youth group. I meet my wife there and about a douzen friends more deeply committed to their faith than anyone else I have met in my 32 years of life. I also volunteered at a local shelter. There are people there who need to be served. All I did was mop the floors, talk to the clients, and try my best to be as supportive to the councilors as I could, but the blessings I received in return didn’t compare with anything I gave.

God bless and good luck.

P.S. My grandmother always used to say, life is like a series of valleys and hills. When you are in a low part of your life, just remember that at some point it will go up again.

My dear precious one! I love you so much! You are one of Christ’s wonderful jewels, and God loves you more than anything in the entire universe! When Jesus was here, He said “I go to prepare a place for you!” Can you even imagine the God of the universe, saying that He has gone to build you a place to live forever with Him? Please don’t be down. There are so many people who love you, who you don’t even know. I love you, and someday we will be with Jesus forever and ever. Right at the end of the Bible it states, “no more death, no more tears, no more crying, for all these things will pass away.” Believe what Jesus says, for it all is coming true! And it will be for you! You are a choice jewel to Him and here is a little letter that describes His love for you:
You are special. In the entire world there is nobody like you.
Since the beginning of time, there has never been another person like you.
Nobody has your smile, nobody has your eyes, your nose, your hair, your hands, your voice.
You are special. No one can be found who has your handwriting.
Nobody anywhere has your tastes for food, clothing, music, or art. No one sees things just as you do.
In all of time there has been no one who laughs like you, no one!
Who cries like you, and what makes you cry, or laugh, will never produce identical laughter and tears from anybody else, ever!
You are the only one in all creation who has your set of abilities.
O’, there will always be somebody who is better at one of the things you are good at, but no one in the universe can reach the quality of your combination of talents, ideas, abilities, and feelings. Like a room full of musical instruments, some may excel alone, but none can match the symphony sound when all are played together. You are a symphony.
Through all of eternity, no one will ever look, talk, walk, think, or do, like you.
You are special . . . You are rare. And in all rarity there is great value.
Because of your great value, you need not attempt to imitate others . . . you will accept – yes, celebrate your differences.
You are special, and you are beginning to realize it is no accident that you are very special.
You are beginning to see that God made you very special for a purpose.
He must have a job for you, that no one else can do, as well as you!
Out of the billions of applicants, only one is qualified, only one has the right combination of what it takes.
That one is You, because . . .
Code:
You are a very, very special person!
Please believe every word of this description of YOU! For Jesus loves you, and lastly, Jesus states, “Eye hath not seen nor ear heard the things He has in store for us.” Believe and trust and live with the eyes of your heart fastened upon Him!

There are some great responses on here but let me add this if I may.

God and we love you unconditionally. When times are tough and you get down, that’s when the strength of your faith should grow. God is always there for you calling and wanting you to join him in heaven. Never, ever forget that. Prayer and meditation will help guide you to the right people and bring you closer to Jesus.

I will pray a Rosary for you.

Dear One,

Don’t be so hard on yourself. I myself have learning disabilities and my youngest daughter is ADHD. She really had a difficult time but has overcome it.

I don’t know if that is your problem, but it could be as I know that there have been many times that my boss had to repeat himself before I actually heard what he said. I finally realized that like my daughter I have attention span deficeit. I told him I have a problem and it helped.

About depression my other daughter is bi-polar and is going through a terrible time and thinks about suicide. Her depression can’t be solved by medications as the only one that worked no longer works and she is desperate. I understand your isolation as society (and doctors) today don’t seem to have much humanity left. It is all about the dollar and since she dosm’t have money she can’t afford to pay for the best care.

I am also depressed about the situation. The other part about people not being friendly in church, that is true to a great degree. I was not happy with my parish for the disrespect during Mass and people weren’t really friendly. God has brought me to a much smaller parish, it is a wonderful place, the people are friendly and very reverent. I know that I will have to reach out to them and join one of the groups they have to really make friends. I will be praying for you to find the right place and don’t worry about being stupid, your not. Everyone learns in different ways, Your not alone in feeling your the only one. People in general today seem to be burdened by their own problems and can’t offer the support others need. Your faith in the True Church is the most important thing. Our Lord did not promise us an easy life.

I don’t understand the suffering many of us go through, but remember Jesus suffered beyond anything we can imagine and He did it just for you and the whole world.

May our Blessed Lord be with you always.

Bernadette

Hi Brother, sometimes you need to make your own fellowship opportunities. Hey, invite some guys ( no gals ) over to share praise music, pizza and discussion. Maybe, hook up with your Stephen program in your parish to help others. Jesus never said that being a Christian is going to be easy. Ok, your slow, then listen to the sermon on tape a few times in your spare time.

👍

Know this and never forget it. The world will hate you for his names sakes. This means, the stronger your faith, the closer you are to God, the more the world will hate you, to follow Christ doesn’t mean that the road you travel will be an easy one, wide is the path to damnation, narrow is the one to salvation. You at least are sharing here, and you can see you do have friendly people that are with you in your faith. Stick around, it gets better as you share in fellowship with us, and never know that God loves you more then you can possibly imagine.

Along intellegence, I have the opposite problem, my IQ is extreemly high, I pick up things on the fly while others struggle with it for years, I face plenty of resentment for this from others. There have been many times where I just think, wouldn’t it be nice to be a non thinking slob, to be able to be an empty head and simply hang out, but nooo… I gotta discect, interject, analyze, crossreference, and in general, not simply hang out and enjoy the moment. Sure, it comes in handy for solving problems, but it creates dissention since people that I face on a day to day basis, I literally could build a machine to replace them and it would produce the same results, if not better then what they do and are. Don’t be down on yourself for being a slow learner, in fact, people learn along different levels and systems, many who consider themselves slow simply have not found a system that works for them, and what they teach, the system of how things are taught, do not apply to yourself, …see what I mean, hehe.

When you are feeling negative about yourself, think 10 times the opposite, say it out loud and say it with meaning, 10 positive affirmations always trumps 1 negative thought.

You guys need to check the date on a thread and the date of the last post before posting on them. This thread has been inactive for about 10 months and no doubt the issue which was current then is past now.
