Depressing start to the day

On my way into work today, I flipped on the radio, and heard all of the following in a row:
  1. A guy being interviewed about a website he runs that lets married people search for partners, so they can cheat on their spouses.
  2. An ad for an adult bookstore and sex toy shop.
  3. An ad for trojan condoms.
I’m sorry, but I’m disgusted right now…the line has not only been crossed, it’s been stomped on, spit on and erased. Anything goes, sex, sex, sex, and I can’t imagine if I had a child, letting him/her go within 100 miles of a radio. (Mind you, this is regular radio, not satellite.)

I’ve decided that, from now on, on my morning commute, I’m going to listen to the classical station…it soothes my nerves and lets me smile a bit at the start of the day, and also helps remind me that actual musicians once walked the Earth, not like the plastic, fake ones we have today.
 
Thta IS a horrible way to start the day…but an opportunity to pray for those folks is certainly there for you (and no, me!).

Do you have an iPod? I used to have about an hour’s commute so I listened to CAL I downloaded…**or **I downloaded it and burned it to a CD to play in the car.

I also listen to our local news radio…were you listening to a talk station or a music station?
 
I pray the Rosary on my way to work. I have the Rosary CD from Catholicity. Otherwise I usually listen to a contemporary Christian station. I can’t get a Catholic station where I live.

I love my iPod! I can listen to CAL, “The Dr. is In”, 'Heart, MInd & Strength" and lots more EWTN programming.
Plus, I don’t have to listen to the Curious George DVD that my 2 year old can’t get enough of!
 
I know, isn’t it disgusting. :tsktsk: Your idea to flip to the classical music station is a good one. We keep our car radio on classical music as well.

It’s the same thing on TV. We mostly leave the TV on EWTN Catholic programming… but every now and then, I will flip the channel to catch the news… and it seems that every other commercial is for “sex drugs”. You know, like… Viagra… stuff like that. Sickening.

I have often thought… is THIS what our children are watching on TV now? By the time they’re my age… they will be numb to all this garbage. :hypno: Will they even know the difference between right and wrong?🤷

We need to return to modesty and chastity… in a big way. Pray often!
 
iPod all the way. You can get em cheaper and cheaper these days. 🙂
 
Man, that is depressing!

Much worse than not being able to watch a clean (very few) prime time show without a commercial for Viagra.
 
that is why I listen to the Christian radio station, as there is no Catholic station I can reach. at least I don’t have to listen to ads for various companies, therapies and products that cater to America’s sex obsession.

I have not and will not listen to mainstream radio for a long time for that reason. the typical AM morning show is IMO not appropriate listening for anyone who calls themselves Christian.

DH has satellite radio which we use when travelling so it is just a fight over music or a ball game. we have come to an agreement and he uses earphones if he wants to hear Rush

now if I could do something about the row of billboards on the freeway which line the approach to our National Shrine for all those products, therapies and services.
 
I listen to audio books on my 1.5hr drive to work. I’m just finishing up, the Confessions of St. Augustine.

I also get audio books from the public library. With my commute, I can go through one book per week.

I travel quite a bit so I got Sirius radio and now I can listen to Catholic radio 24/7 on channel 160 and never worry about losing the signal even in small towns or in between. It’s the best money I ever spent. Now I find myself using my i pod only when working out.
